Arrival Day

Moshi Town - Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted and transported to Keys Hotel in Moshi town for a briefing and overnight stay.

Morum Barrier Gate - Shira 1 Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast at Keys Hotel, you will head to Londorossi gate, a journey of about 3 hours. At Londorossi gate, you will complete entry formalities and then continue by car to Morum Barrier Gate, which takes another hour to reach the trailhead. Upon arrival, you will have lunch and then start your trek through heather and moorland to your first camp on Mt. Kilimanjaro, a descent that takes about 1-2 hours. The view of Kibo from across the plateau is spectacular.

Shira 1 Camp - Moir Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, you will leave Shira 1 Camp and hike across the Shira plateau towards Kibo’s glaciered peak. At an average altitude of 12,500 feet, Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth. You will then head towards the northeast edge of the Plateau to reach Moir Camp, a trek of about 4-5 hours over easy terrain. Moir Camp is an isolated and rarely used camp with stunning views over the Shira Plateau.

Moir Camp - Buffalo Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - On your fourth day, you will trek out of the moorland and into the alpine desert, following a steep ridge off the main trail onto the Northern Circuit Route. The trek takes about 5-7 hours. From the Pofu Campsite, you will enjoy spectacular views into Kenya’s wild lands to the north.

Buffalo Camp - Kikelewa Caves Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, you will trek through valleys and over ridges in the alpine desert and moorland, continuing your circuit to the east. The trek takes about 5-7 hours, allowing you to enjoy the vast mountain wilderness.

Kikelewa Caves Camp - Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - After a 3-6 hour trek, you will reach a tranquil mountain tarn at the foot of Mawenzi’s steep ridges, Kilimanjaro’s second highest volcano. Your camp for the night is nestled along the tarn with magnificent views of Mawenzi’s steep rocks.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp - Outward Bound Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - Today’s trek takes about 5-7 hours across the wide saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape is stark and impressive. As you near Kibo, the temperatures drop. After reaching Outward Bound Camp, prepare your gear for the next day and rest. Fresh food and supplies will be delivered to the camp from our Arusha base.

Outward Bound Camp - Uhuru Peak - Millennium Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - You will receive a midnight wake-up call to start a long trek. After some quick tea, you will begin trekking at around 1am up a winding path of switchbacks. The trek to the crater rim (Gillman’s Point) and then to Uhuru Peak takes about 7-8 hours. The slope is steep with loose rock and scree. Spend some time at Hans Meyer cave on the way. The trek from Gilman’s Point to the summit is less demanding and takes about 1½-2 hours. After a short time at the summit, descend back to Gilman’s Point and then to Mweka Camp for your last night on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate

Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, you will descend to the gate, a trek of about 2-4 hours. At the exit gate, you will receive Kilimanjaro climbing certificates and then drive to Keys Hotel in Moshi.

The Northern Circuit is one of the newest routes on Kilimanjaro. It is an amazing climb and the only one that circles clockwise around the north side of Mount Kilimanjaro. The Northern Circuit begins at the Lemosho gate and ascends through the lush rainforest. It follows the Lemosho path for the first few days.

The route continues ascending to the desolate yet beautiful Shira Plateau in the Heather/Moorland zone. From there the route continues to the prominent Lava Tower before heading north on the only route on that side of Kilimanjaro.

You will feel like you have the entire mountain to yourself as you are treated to amazing views of Kenya below. It continues to circle around until it reaches the northeast side and heads for the summit from there.
