Highlights

MOSHI - MARANGU GATE – KILEMA GATE – HOROMBO HUT

Kilimanjaro National Park - Meet your guide and embark on your transfer to the Marangu Gate, which takes about 45 minutes. The journey passes through the village of Marangu, which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain. Once you reach the park gate, all hikers are required to register at the Park office. After signing-in at the Marangu gate, we drive to the Kilema gate. Upon arrival, you will ensure that you have all your day-pack items (containing at least drinking water, your lunch pack, and extra clothing) and do a final check on your mountain bike.

You will then start the first route section of 16km, (with your guide also on a mountain bike) from the Kilema gate (1 950m) to the Horombo hut (3 705m). It is important to remember that the biggest cause of altitude sickness is ascending too high too quickly. We will be stopping regularly and to give your body the maximum time to adjust to the higher altitudes. We will aim to reach Horombo hut at around 15:00 pm.

FULL DAY HOROMBO ACCLIMATIZATION (Horombo Hut – Mawenzi Hut – Back To Horombo Hut)

Again the first 3km, with the final 7km to Kibo hut offering a good biking trail. We will get lunch, then aim to rest. At around 16h00 depending on how you feel it is possible to hike partially up the summit path to orientate yourself for the summit attempt later that night Situated in the barren Alpine desert is Kibo hut, a stone build block house which has bunk beds for 60 climbers. The summit (Uhuru Peak) is now a further 1195m up and you will make your final ascent the same night. Prepare your equipment, thermal clothing, etc for your summit. This should include the replacement of your headlamp and camera batteries and make sure you have a spare set available as well. To prevent freezing it will be wise you Summit Potters or Guide to carry your water in a thermal flask.
Go to bed at around 19h00 and get as much rest and sleep as possible, until 22h00.

KIBO HUT - UHURU PEAK (SUMMIT) THEN RIDE DOWN TO HOROMBO HUT

Kilimanjaro National Park - At four am, you will be awakened by your guides to start the zigzag trek up long screen slop. After roughly two hours you should reach Hans Meyer’s Cave and from here the gradient gets steeper. Continue your climb for approximately another three hours to Gilman’s Point, you will take your bike from Porters and start riding to Uhuru peak, arriving at Uhuru peak spends some few minutes or take photos, and then riding down to Stella Point. Kilimanjaro really does offer a diverse bike experience in the wilderness - There was plenty of African Sports to see and the bike tours were made all the merrier with scenic stops for a sun down gin & tonic. I stayed at different Camps in my three days Kilimanjaro bike tour, both lovely accommodations with attentative staff and delicious food. If you are thinking about a bike tour, Kilimanjaro really does offer a diverse experience in the wilderness.

Kilimanjaro with friends while biking - I went to top of largest mountain while riding a bike. I made a few friends in Moshi who wanted to challenge me. Expect big rats. Get a disk rim of tire on bicycle. Try to not be too fast. Expect flat tire unless your bicycle is for professional bikers. I am glad my flat tires were not staying so long been flat. I had a very good porter who kept changing and fixing. My bicycle was being very stubborn because it was not for high altitudes. Get one for high altitudes professional Mountain Bikes that can handle 5000+ meters above sea level.

Amazing treck - We did 3 days Kilimanjaro region bike tour to Lake Chala then rongai. In the higher regions we saw good farming practice of water and soil saving agriculture of the locals. We ride close to the Kenyan border climbing gently to higher altitude. The last 6 miles are on tar and quite steep. In the afternoon we arrive at our cozy chalets. This is one of the starting points leading onto the mountain. If you want to get a taste what it’s like you can go for a walk. On day 3 we cycle back to moshi.

Moshi Town to Village via green Forest by Bike - The tour we did after kilimanjaro hiking was Moshi city tour by bike, This fascinating tour takes you from the colourful, bustling Moshi town roads to nearby picturesque villages, through forest trails and along tiny farmland paths. You’ll get an authentic flavour of this little typically-Tanzanian community nestling in the green and fertile foothills of Kilimanjaro, through first-hand experience of town and agricultural life and of its colonial history. We really enjoyed a cheeky beer, too!
