Distance: 8km/5mi
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Distance: 8km/5mi
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Moorland

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - From the Shira Plateau we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth” (elev 4650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower we come to the second junction which goes to the Arrow Glacier. We now continue down to the Barranco Camp. Although you end the day around the same elevation as when you began, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

Distance: 8km/5mi
Walking Time: 5-6 hours
Habitat: Semi-desert

Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge up the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail.

Distance: 5km/3mi
Climbing Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - We continue up to the Barafu Camp. You have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day.

Elevation: 4050m/13,250ft to 4700m/15,350ft
Distance: 4km/2mi
Climbing Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit.

From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa!

From the summit we begin our descent by continuing straight down to the Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You may want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. We arrive at Mweka Camp and enjoy our last evening on the mountain.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Hotel

Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).

Monkey Adventures vehicle will be waiting for you at Mweka gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (around 60 minutes).

Elevation: 3090m/10,150ft to 1680m/5500ft

Affordable Kilimanjaro Excellence - We had an amazing team with us during our just ended Kilimanjaro trek. I really got close to lead guide Khamis and appreciate the way he handled our trek. He coordinated the whole team of guides, porters, waiter and cook such that everything flowed like clock work. Everyone knew what was expected of them thereby giving us an excellent climb. I was impressed by the quality of service, dedication from the team and care. They put our safety and success first. I believe that the six of us would have not reached the summit without the crew's support. I highly recommend Kilimanjaro Economy Safari for Kilimanjaro trekking. They have excellent services and are really affordable.

Incredible Kilimanjaro Trekking Experience - This must be one of the adventures that I will remember for a long time. We had been planning to take this trip for a long time and we finally did with Musa and Femi of Kilimanjaro Economy Safari. We also did a day to Materuni waterfalls after the hike as we only did seven days instead of the planned eight. I have a lot admiration and respect for our crew for being the best traveling companions one would wish for. So kind, helpful and genuinely committed to our success. They all worked hard/smart and spared no effort to keep us comfortable and happy at all times. The weather was good and we enjoyed great views from the trail. Luckily we did not experience ALS on the hike and were able to go for the summit safely. There was enough food and delicious too. We got fruit in every seating which was a wonderful touch. The tents were comfortable and the hot water bottles helped to ward off the bitter cold. I highly recommend Kilimanjaro Economy Safari for Kilimanjaro trekking

Fabulous week up Kilimanjaro and Tanzania Safari - It is impossible to put in to words the incredible experience we had climbing Kili, Lemosho Route, with Kilimanjaro Economy Safari. The guides, Hadji and Mariki, were amazing…helpful, friendly, encouraging, professional, adapting to our needs and pace. They really kept us going. Hadji’s experience on the mountain made us feel safe. Mariki was the assistant guide and got me to Uhuru peak. He felt like a brother. However, the entire mountain crew was amazing…fun to be with and they served and helped us beyond our wildest expectations. They were always looking to help and encourage us in any way they could, always with a smile. It was an exhilarating experience and we couldn’t have done it without the entire team. The food was fantastic. Who would have thought that you could have such incredible meals at 14k feet. We had delicious food every day and we looked forward to our fresh soup every night (we still talk about the best soup ever). Though at times we had little appetite due to the elevation, Kenny kept encouraging us to get the necessary calories with a smile and friendly word. We had planned to do the Lemosho route over 8 days but did it in 7. We loved the route. The monkeys and incredible diversity in terrain and vegetation were stunning. The stars at night were indescribable..and the sunrise on summit morning was…well you have to experience it. It was only my wife and me wit the mountain team, which allowed us to go at our own pace. We are just average 55 year olds, in decent shape but not marathoners. It was definitely a challenge but very doable. Kili Economy was great all the way through. There are so many tour options and I explored dozens before choosing. I am very glad we landed with Kili Economy. Edward was always quick to respond to questions, professional and friendly, one of the big influences in deciding to go with this tour company. The value for the money was amazing. We felt like we were part of the Kili Economy family. The base camp they provided for accommodation was very basic (simple, no wifi and 10 minutes from town) but safe and clean. We decided to get a hotel room in town the night we arrived back, simply to spoil ourselves after an exhilarating but exhausting week. Following the trek up Kili, we did a 5 day safari with them to the four major parks in northern Tanzania. It was nice to have a seamless transition from the trek to the safari. The accommodations they chose for the safari were some of the best and most unique we’ve stayed at anywhere and added to the beauty of the safari tour. We are very thankful for the Kili Economy team. It was an experience we will never forget. I think you would be hard pressed to find a tour with a better combination of professionalism, friendliness, service and value for your money, I would definitely recommend them.

Awesome Experience - My girfriends and I are extremely grateful to the awesome crew from Kilimanjaro Economy Safari for a job well done. Mushi and his crew took 4 novice climbers under their caring wings and turned them to ultimate climbers that scaled Kilimanjaro in a record 8 days! We were smart in taking Eddies advice to go for the longer Lemosho route because getting to the summit was excruciatingly difficult despite having a whole day to acclimatize. This crew looked after all our needs and made the trip an epic adventure. Honestly I cannot recall any tangible negatives and fully recommend Kilimanjaro Economy Safaris.
