Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast and a briefing from your guide, leave Moshi at 9 AM, drive for 45 minutes to the Marangu Gate on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro, register with the national park, and begin hiking at 10:30 AM. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colobus monkeys. At these lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts should be sufficient, but keep your rain gear and warmer clothing handy. Stop halfway for lunch, and reach the Mandara Huts at 2 or 3 PM. Unpack, rest, and have some tea or coffee. A 15-minute side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. Dinner is served during the early evening at 7 PM. Bathrooms with running water are available

The Marangu Route, referred to as both the “Tourist Route” and the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the most frequented trail on the mountain, thus earning it a “touristy” reputation. Its fame also stems from the fact that it is the only route with sleeping cabins where beverages such as Coca-Cola are available. It’s the simplest path to Kilimanjaro’s peak, often other times referred to as the Coca-Cola Route.
The Marangu route provides a gentle climb through forests, moorlands and then The Saddle, a desolate area of high altitude dividing the main summit, Kibo, at 5895m, and rugged Mawenzi, at 5149m, all the way to Kibo Hut. From this point, an early start is made for the climb to Uhuru Point, the pinnacle of Kibo. The route involves a zig-zag path up steep scree that is easier to ascend when frozen.
The scenes from the crater edge at Gillman’s Point in the early morning are breathtaking. Just above it locates the Uhuru Peak.
