Highlights
  • Mosta Rotunda - The Mosta Dome is arguably the most remarkable church in Malta, featuring a massive rotunda that ranks as the third largest in the world. Visitors can explore the dome and shelters here.

The Mosta Dome church, dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady, was constructed in 1860. During World War II, the church narrowly escaped destruction when a 200kg bomb fell through the dome during an air raid but did not explode. Remarkably, all 300 people attending morning mass were unharmed. On April 9, 1942, the bomb’s detonator was removed, and a replica is now displayed inside the church, making it a famous tourist attraction. The Mosta Dome, or Rotunda, took 27 years to build and was designed by George Grognet de Vasse, a French designer who lived in Mosta.

Mosta’s festa, celebrating St. Mary or the Assumption of Our Lady, is held annually on August 15.

  • Ta’ Qali Crafts Village - Located in the former RAF wartime airfield, the crafts village in Ta’ Qali is a popular tourist destination in Malta. It features a variety of crafts and beautiful artifacts created by local artisans.

Visitors can watch craftsmen blowing and shaping glass, visit goldsmiths creating filigree and exquisite jewelry, and admire beautiful sculptures and lace.

  • Mdina Old City - Mdina is a fortified medieval town with bastions, situated on a large hill in central Malta. Once the capital of Malta, Mdina is known for its narrow streets, few residents, and stunning views over the island, making it a truly enchanting town. Referred to as the “Silent City” by both locals and visitors, Mdina restricts car access to a limited number of residents, offering a peaceful atmosphere for those strolling through its narrow streets and alleyways.

  • Dingli Cliffs - Dingli Cliffs represent the highest point in the Maltese islands, marked by a small chapel dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene perched on the edge.

  • Blue Grotto (Il-Hnejja) - The Blue Grotto is a series of sea caves along Malta’s southeastern coast and is a must-visit tourist attraction.

  • Marsaxlokk - Marsaxlokk is renowned for its iconic daily markets and traditional Maltese fishing boats, known as luzzu, which dot the coastal waters. These colorful boats, typically painted in red, blue, and yellow, are a vibrant symbol of Malta.

Each luzzu features two “eyes” on the front, a tradition rooted in both Catholicism and superstition, believed to ward off the evil eye and protect fishermen from the dangers of the deep.

  • Birgu - Birgu is an ancient locality with medieval origins. Before Valletta became the capital, military powers aiming to control Malta had to secure Birgu due to its strategic position in the Grand Harbour. It served as the base for the Order of Saint John and was the de facto capital of Malta from 1530 to 1571. Birgu played a crucial role in the Great Siege of Malta in 1565.

  • Senglea - Isla (or Senglea) is the smallest of the Three Cities in the Cottonera. This old city is located on a peninsula extending into the Grand Harbour, facing the charming walled city of Valletta.
