- Mosta Rotunda - The Mosta Dome is arguably the most remarkable church in Malta, featuring a massive rotunda that ranks as the third largest globally. Visitors can explore the dome and shelters.
Constructed in 1860, the Mosta Dome church is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady. During World War II, the church narrowly escaped destruction when a 200kg bomb fell through the dome during an air raid but did not explode. Remarkably, all 300 attendees of the morning mass were unharmed. On April 9, 1942, the bomb’s detonator was removed, and a replica is now displayed inside the church, attracting many tourists. The Mosta Dome, or Rotunda, took 27 years to complete and was designed by George Grognet de Vasse, a French designer residing in Mosta.
Mosta’s festa, celebrating St. Mary or the Assumption of Our Lady, is held annually on August 15th.

The Maltese luzzu, a robust and dependable boat historically used by fishermen, is one of Malta’s most vibrant symbols. Typically painted in red, blue, and yellow, these colorful boats are hard to miss.
In addition to their colors, the luzzu features two “eyes” on the front. While Maltese fishermen are traditionally Catholic, superstition is prevalent in the community, leading to the addition of the “eye” symbol to ward off the evil eye and protect them from misfortune at sea.
