Truffle is a peculiar underground fungus, with two significant types: the white truffle (Tuber Magnatum) and the black truffle (Tuber Melanosporum). Both types can be found in the Motovun forest, which is nestled in the valley of the Mirna River. Though truffles can be located elsewhere, those from Motovun hold a reputation for being the pinnacle of quality. Truffles dwell 10 to 30 centimetres below the ground, making them difficult to locate - hence, professional dogs are used for truffle hunting. Visitors to Motovun are encouraged to partake in the truffle hunting experience. The Svilicic family, having over four decades of truffle hunting experience, offer excursions that shed light on why truffle hunting is globally recognized.
