Spiritual - We travelled as a group from Fes to the once capital of Morocco Meknes. Our group also journeyed to the ancient ruins of Volubilis and the spiritual capital Moulay Idriss. The entire trip was for a duration of a day. The aforementioned places have merits and attractions worthy of books individually. As for the trip, it was organised by our guide Abdun Nabi Misbahi, he made sure that it was an experience to remember. We set off at the crack of dawn, he had arranged a coach for us (twenty-two people in total). The coach was modern and of a good standard. We travelled what took us the greater part of an hour to the outskirts of Volubilis where we stopped for panaromic views of a scenic country side. We tasted fresh pressed olive oil and ate figs. Thereafter we travelled to the ancient ruins of Volubilis. There was a small entry fee at Volubilis but we toured and spent the greater part of the morning there. There is a lot of history surrounding it. We then travelled to the spiritual capital of Morocco, Moulay Idris Zarhoun. This is the resting place of the patron Saint of Morocco. It houses a very large mausoleum built on a hill. The surrounding village has evolved over time. The village takes the person into a different world and one can actually sense the spiritual presence. Abdun Nabi showed us the various chambers of the mausoleum, some which were publicly closed but he was able to get access much to the delight of our group. We also spent some time climbing the hills to gain a view of the entire village and the country side. We thereafter travelled to Meknes. We had a full tour of Meknes, we were given information about the once warrior King Moulay Ismaeel and his many children (2000+). Also we viewed the Palace, the historical museum, the thousand minaret wall, the great gate, the large man made reservoir. We then ate at a famous eatery which was heavily discounted from the menu price due to Abdun Nabi knowing the owners. The food was perfect. In the evening we returned to Fes for the hot baths at the hamaam, lovely sugared mint tea and to relax. Highly recommended. Thank you Abdun Nabi and team for an amazing memorable time.
