• Tauranga - Discover the story of Kupe’s arrival in 925 AD, the first known Polynesian explorer to reach Aotearoa (New Zealand) from the historic homeland of Hawaiiki. Witness a Polynesian compass (Te Kāpehu) similar to the one he used for navigation, which served as a navigational blueprint for our ancestors’ arrival in Aotearoa (New Zealand).

• Otamataha Pa - A short 10-minute drive transports you back to 1828, a time of inter-tribal conflict, the arrival of settlers, missionaries, and British colonial forces. Here, learn about the local Māori tribes.

• The Elms - Visit the Mission House, significant for the ensuing conflict, and see New Zealand’s oldest free-standing library. A brief stop is made here.

• Patrick’s Pies Goldstar Bakery Tauranga - Experience a New Zealand culinary icon, the humble pie. Patrick’s Pies Gold Star Bakery, a nine-time New Zealand Pies Supreme Award-winning bakery, is a must-try.

• Gate Pa Memorial Reserve - Explore the site of one of the most significant conflicts between colonial troops and local Māori tribes in 1864. Learn about the carvings, the conflict, and its impact on Tauranga and the surrounding district, as well as its connection to future world conflicts.
