George Washington’s Mount Vernon - The designated tour guide will share historical insights while traveling along the Potomac River via the GW Parkway. Upon arrival, enjoy an 11-minute orientation film presented by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, followed by a guided tour of George Washington’s meticulously restored 1799 mansion. Visitors will have free time to explore and observe innovative farming techniques demonstrated by costumed interpreters (April through October). Discover both original and reconstructed buildings that depict life on this 18th-century plantation, including George & Martha Washington’s 1831 Tomb. Visit the D.W. Reynolds Museum to learn about George Washington’s legacy, experience the Revolutionary War in a 4D theater, and conclude your visit at the gift shop.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon - IMPORTANT information about the Mansion Revitalization Project. From 2023-2026, Mount Vernon will undertake a significant preservation project to protect the Mansion’s original structure and ensure its longevity for future generations.

Mansion:
During the ongoing preservation work, some rooms in the Mansion will not be accessible.
The museum, historic grounds, tomb, slave memorial, farm, and gardens remain OPEN.
Education Center:
The Education Center exhibit on George Washington’s life is closed for a comprehensive rebuild and will reopen in 2026.
The museum exhibit “Mount Vernon: Story of An American Icon,” located next to the Education Center, remains OPEN.
- Old Town - On the return journey, explore 1749 Old Town Alexandria, highlighting significant historical events and landmarks often missed by travelers. A scenic drive across the Potomac will bring the group back to the nation’s capital, concluding this exceptional and unique experience.
