- Jvari Church - The first destination is Jvari Monastery, an ancient temple dating back to the 6th century AD, located near the historic capital of Georgia. Perched atop a high mountain, it offers stunning views of the surrounding area, where the Aragvi and Kura rivers converge near the ancient city of Mtskheta. The temple draws thousands of tourists due to its remarkable architecture, scenic location, and historical significance. The name of the church translates from Georgian as “the cross” and has a rich history that will be shared during the visit. Since 1994, Jvari has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, underscoring its global importance.
- Mtskheta - The next stop is Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia and a museum city that, like Jvari Monastery, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inhabited for over 2500 years, it was once the capital of the early Kingdom of Iberia. This historic town is home to numerous ancient monuments, including the Pompey Bridge, a stone bridge over the Kura River built around 65 BC during the time of Pompey the Great, Bebris Castle from the 1st century, and the sacred Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where the Robe of Jesus, brought to Georgia from Jerusalem in the 1st century, is buried. During the tour in Mtskheta, visitors will walk from the parking lot to the historical fortress, passing through the narrow streets filled with souvenir shops, wine tastings, and Georgian sweets. The tour includes a visit to the burial place of the Robe of Jesus at Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. After visiting the cathedral, there will be time to explore and take memorable photos.
