- Wat Rong Khun - Wat Rong Khun is a must-see attraction in Chiangrai, established in 1997 by Thailand’s renowned artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. This temple is distinctive for its white color and the incorporation of glass pieces in the plaster, which glisten in the sunlight. The white color represents the Buddha’s purity, and the temple’s architecture blends modern Thai and Lanna Thai designs, symbolizing Buddhist heaven.
- Golden Triangle - The Golden Triangle marks the convergence of three countries: Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. Located 9 kilometers north of Chiang Saen along the Mekong riverside road, Sop Ruak is where the Mekong River, the border between Thailand and Laos, meets the Ruak River, the border between Thailand and Myanmar. Historically, the Golden Triangle was a major hub for drug trafficking due to its strategic location. Today, it is well-maintained and a popular tourist destination. From the viewpoint, visitors can see the land connecting the three countries, surrounded by the serene Mae Kong River.
- Wat Rong Seur Ten (Blue Temple) - The construction of this temple was initiated by the local community in 1996 to replace an old, abandoned temple that once stood on the site. However, construction did not begin until 2005, with the final design realized by local artist Sala Nok. Wat Rong Suea Ten translates to “House of the Dancing Tiger,” named after the tigers that once roamed the area. The Buddha image in the chapel stands over six meters tall and dates back to 2008. It is called Buddha Rajamongkol Bodhi Trilokanat.
- Wat Huay Pla Kang - Founded in 2005, Wat Huay Pla Kang was designed by a visionary, resulting in its unique architecture that combines Chinese and Lanna styles. The temple features three main attractions:
- The Guanyin statue, often mistakenly referred to as the Big Lady Buddha, represents the Buddhist ‘Goddess of Mercy,’ an important deity in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. Visitors can take an elevator to the top of the statue, which is 25-26 floors high, and enjoy a view of Chiang Rai from the head of the Guanyin statue.
- Mae Khachan Hot Spring - Located halfway between Chiangmai and Chiangrai, Mae Khachan Hot Spring is surrounded by mountains and is considered one of the best hot springs in the north. It offers not only a beautiful natural setting but also various attractions that draw both Thai and foreign visitors. The garden features mineral water pools for soaking feet, and travelers can buy chicken eggs to boil in the natural hot water while enjoying coffee from the highlands of Chiangrai.
