Dharavi slum visit 11th of December 2024 - Experiencing the daily life in Dharavi slum was truly eye-opening, especially for someone from Europe. The people there endure the hardships of life without complaint, finding happiness even with the bare minimum. Their greatest treasure is simply being alive. I believe that people from Europe or affluent parts of the world, who often face psychological struggles without serious reasons, could greatly benefit from spending a week in Dharavi to understand resilience and gratitude. We can learn from those who have little yet find joy in life, and use this perspective to appreciate our own lives more. I’d also like to thank my guide, Anthony, who supports the local community through his work. For anyone visiting Mumbai, I highly recommend taking the time to explore Dharavi—it’s an unforgettable and humbling experience.

Very humbling. - Very humbling. This tour was very interesting to see how the inner working of the slums worked. There was a lot of things that were eye opening for me especially being from the USA. All I can say is to prepare yourself emotionally as it is a lot to take in. I would absolutely recommend going as it brings some money and awareness of their community. 10/10

Full on experience - Very humbling experience visiting the slum district with a local tour guide Adnan who still lives with his family here. Great behind the scenes look of how people live and work in and around the bustling town with it’s plastic recycling , pottery and textiles industries . See a real sense of community that looks after each other in hard times. Felt totally confident and safe with Adnan leading the way, who is 3rd generation to the area. A must do tour 👍🏼👍🏼

Walking tour of the slums in Mumbai - Just done the walking tour of the slums in Mumbai with Ruqaiyya and Rehanaq and it was excellent, the girls were very good giving us lots of information about the different areas, it took about two and a half hours of walking, it felt very safe and people were very welcoming, we wouldn’t recommend you do it by yourself because you would get lost in the maze!

Kavita’s knowledge - Kavita is a very knowledgeable woman explaining very important facts that was backed by evidence I saw while we were walking in the multiple alleys. Because of her explanations, I was able to slowly modify my opinion on Dharavi. I highly suggest everyone to see how a community can change around for the benefit of the people living there. Out of my two month travelling in India, it is the best experience I had, and I thank Kavita, the young woman who was outstanding.

Super Sid - sensational tour. - We had a 3 hour tour today with Sid (Ruqaiyya). Amazing experience not to be missed. Really shows you the contrasts between the haves and have nots. Also the amazing innovation, industry and recycling being carried out in such a small area. Sid was so informative - excellent communication skills and a great shepherd for our group of four through the mad busy streets of the slum. A vibrant, friendly place , full of life and smiles. If you can take small gifts to hand out to the children you will be rewarded with miles of smiles. ( We took a few 100 pens) Thank you!

Worthwhile experience - Rukaiya allowed us a window of understanding industries that Dharavi is home to...and a way of life it is contributing to the larger metropolis especially the recycling of its solid waste.

Impressive tour of Dharavi & Dhobi Ghat - Our sympathetic and knowledgeable guide Yash grew up in Dharavi and gave us an impressive insight in life in the slums. We were especially happy to have also visited the Colaba Dhobi Ghat (instead of the larger Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat where you cannot enter inside) and were able to see the laundry process from inside, and also all the trades, schools, living quarters and more. Linda Tours is done by local guides which ensures that your choice benefits them. We definitely recommend them and Yash!
