Highlights
  • Kanheri Caves - The Kanheri Caves are a group of caves and rock-cut monuments cut into a massive basalt outcrop in the forests of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, on the island of Salsette in the western outskirts of Mumbai, India. They contain Buddhist sculptures and relief carvings, paintings and inscriptions, dating from the 1st century BCE to the 10th century CE. Kanheri comes from the Sanskrit Krishnagiri, which means black mountain. The site is on a hillside, and is accessed via rock-cut steps. The cave complex comprises one hundred and nine caves, carved from the basalt rock and dating from the 1st century BCE to the 10th century CE. Kanheri had become an important Buddhist settlement on the Konkan coast by the 3rd century CE.

Five stars - Great tour, highly recommend. Pickup at hotel was on time and the guide shared lots of details about both sites and answered questions about Mumbai and India.

Day of Buddhism - Have a full day of Buddhism! See the magnificent Kanheri Caves and the beautiful Global Pagoda on the same day! Guides were excellent - helpful and knowledgeable of the history of both sites. Kanheri Caves are in a national park so you get a bit of nature as well. You need to make sure your shoulders are covered to visit the pagoda. If not they will loan you a covering

Five star's plus plus! - Let me assure you this will be the best trip you'll get from this travel company to the caves and Pagoda. So professional in every way. We were planned to be collected from our hotel at 9am, and we were! The drive to the National Park entrance was faultless although the Indian drivers are something else. Our trip was conducted by the owner himself and nothing was too much bother. A wealth of knowledge was obvious both at the caves and the Pagoda. All local tickets were sorted seamlessly and we felt extremely safe with his guidance. Sameer is so passionate about the service he gives that we can only quote him as professional, polite, extremely well informed and understanding of the customers needs. Five star's are not enough but we hope you get the picture!

Awe-inspiring tour - The tour of the Kanhari Caves and Global Vipassana Pagoda with Sameer was simply amazing! You know how many tours are hustle-bustle, hurry up and rush through the sites? This one was different. We slowly hiked through the Buddhist caves and around the pagoda, talking about history, humanity and even the meaning of life! The caves themselves inspire a calm that was a nice retreat from the busy city of Mumbai. Sameer paced the tour so well, with bits of information spread throughout the day so I did not have to digest everything all at once. And, speaking of digestion, he made excellent recommendations at the pagoda cafeteria (try the dal!).

Worked around our schedule to make sure we could do the tour - Sameer messaged me after booking to tell me that Kanheri caves are closed on the day we booked (Mondays). I explained that we get in on Sunday at 2 am, but we were afraid we'd be too jet lagged to do a tour all day on Sunday. He offered to take us to Kanheri caves on Sunday around 3 pm so we had time to rest after our flight. He was also able to add a 4th person last minute to this tour for us. Sameer was very personable and knowledgeable about the Kanheri. He was a great tour guide. His brother Nilesh acted as the driver on this day. On Monday, Nilesh picked us up in the morning and took us to the Global Vipassana Pagoda. Like his brother, Nilesh was very knowledgeable about the city and the Pagoda specifically. He was a great tour guide. We would definitely recommend Shreeji Tours.

A corner of peace in Mumbai - I very much enjoyed the visit. The caves are just amazing, better if you go early in the morning and enjoy the peace and silence. Pagoda is simply amazing, big and shiny, and taking a boat to reach there is a nice experience. My guide was very kind and thoughtful, explaining every doubt I had. Very recommended

The most peaceful place in Mumbai for enjoy nature and meditation - In the beginning of the day I was a bit scared because it was one of my very first trips in India as a solo female. My guide Sameer made me feel comfortable from the beginning and explained carefully and kindly all the questions I had in mind while enjoying the beauty of the nature in Kanheri Caves or the shiny Golden Pagoda with his mesmerising Buddhist quotes that make you think a lot... I learned a lot with him not only about the monuments but also about religion, history and even meditation. I come back from the tour with a cool experience and with a renewed vision of India: There is no need to feel afraid. Thank you Sameer 🙏

Beautiful history and nature! - First and foremost Sameer was one of the best, most informative tour guides we’ve had so far on our trip! He walked us through the history of everything we were seeing and told us stories, and made us feel very informative throughout the whole tour even while in the car! Beautiful tour with lots of history and nature, and was a great way of getting out of the city for a bit! 10 out of 10 would recommend!!!

Day retreat from Mumbai - A great way to balance the chaos of Mumbai with a serene day trip. Sameer was very communicative and welcoming. Overall my tour was thoughtful, informative and fun. Even though I went solo Sameer was very comfortable to be with and became a new friend. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who appreciates history and nature coinciding.
