Amazing insight to learn about the life of slum dwellers - I booked the tour online(27/01/25) and met the tour guide Faizan at the said meeting location. Faizan had a good command for English and he was easily understood. The tour included learning about how waste products get recycled in some shape or another; how they live in the huts making it their living and working space; We then took a short train ride ( which iOS included in the price) with the guide to the dhobi ghats. The dhobi ghat is a place where 1000’s and 1000’s of pieces of clothing come from hotels, businesses and households to get washed, dried and sent back amazingly without loss of items to the owner. We cannot come to really appreciate the way life is for these people but coming on this tour will make you appreciate it

The best guide - I joined alone, but there was another four of us: a tourgoer, a guide, and a guide apprentice. The tour guide was around 5-10 minutes before the meeting point and the time was accurate. The course of the tour and the guide's commentary were amazing. The guide explained in English about the lives of the Dharavislum people, how the slums were formed, and about Dawbi Ghat. It had a common Indian accent, but it was kind of easy to hear, and I was very grateful for the polite rephrases when I heard it back. I booked directly from the official website via WhatsApp a month or two ago, and they offered to discuss an optional tour (it was quick to respond), and when I asked, they sent me photos after the tour, and they were very responsive. I definitely want to use it when I go to Mumbai with my friends again!

Knowledge and Life in the Raw - Our tour was booked through GetYourGuide. Our guide, Bharti, spoke excellent English, had a good sense of humour, was very informative and protective, especially navigating the roads and the railway. She also invited us into her humble home for a rest and a drink of water. The tour itself was a very humbling experience, observing unimaginable living and working conditions as they truly exist in the slums of Mumbai - a living environment that no fellow human being should have to endure, day in, day out, for the equivalent of Euro 136 per month. It is a tour for the traveller, not the tourist, and for people who are really interested to learn about the communities in the places that they visit. We truly recommend it as a way to appreciate and be thankful for everything that we have! We were extremely impressed, however, by the fact that 85% of everything dumped here is recycled - unlike where we live when most is dumped in landfill or sold off to China. It is, however, a very labour intensive, work house environment - 12 hours a day!
