Paula, awesome guide - Paula was our guide. She was very informative about the area and the history of Salzburg. She allotted us several hours to explore on our own. Great experience!

The Hills came alive in Salzburg. - Our guide, Susanne, made the trip special. She was patient, organised, and entertaining. She regaled the group with snippets of Austrian history. She had a good working knowledge of the old town area in Salzburg.

Excellent Guide - Jeremy was an excellent guide; he gave us such a great run down of the rich history of Salzburg, he knows the city extremely well and his presentation style was brilliant! He always made sure that everyone was accounted for and went above & beyond in looking after our group when the rail service provider had some technical issues. When booking this tour I noticed some negative reviews mentioned not being able to hear the tour guide, our experience was quite the opposite. I’d highly recommend taking this tour, we had a great experience!!

Beautiful Salzburg - Salzburg trip from Munich was great. Maxine was amazing , only thing I wish was more time in Salzburg. Will def be back in the near future to explore more of the city. Amazing food at the one of the oldest restaurants in the world. Great views from the top of the fortress as well.

So-so tour - It was just ok. Mass confusion getting back to the train station. I think it would be better by a direct/faster train or by tour bus

A miss for me, but others may find it ok. - A small group with this company is 25, which isn't particuarly small, but manageable. The instructions had us get there 20 minutes to 9am, but the train actually didn't leave until 10:05am. Out guide, who is VERY pleasant, told us that she wanted to get us on the train early so that we could have seats. However, I'm not sure if it was because two people arrived at 9am right when we were leaving, or if this is just how she rolls, but her pace was quite fast and she was hard to hear if you weren't next to her. I'm an athletic person, so keeping up with fast people usually isn't an issue, but for whatever reason that initial superwalk aggravated an old ankle injury that began to feel quite uncomfortable. Despite the guide's reassurances that she would go much slower in Salzburg, I knew in my gut that (a) she wouldn't due to time constraints and train delays; and (b) it would be better to slow down and enjoy what I could vs. trying to keep up. So my friend and I opted to leave the group once we arrived in Salzburg and go straight to the Christmas Market in the square and enjoy it at a relaxed pace. We followed with a nice lunch that allowed my foot some rest, and had some time left over to amble around some more prior to meeting the group for departure.
At first I was disappointed that I didn't see much of Salzburg, but others in the group told me that the 90 minute walking tour was fast-paced, and that there wasn't enough free time to return to the sites to explore them more if you planned to eat or check out the markets. There are also entry fees to some of the key places talked about during the tour. So I'm glad I made lemonade out of lemons and didn't push myself to be a part of itI
It's important to note that the tour tickets include non-reserved train seating and public bus transit. Going to Salzburg wasn't a huge problem, but the return was insane, only part of which was due to the Christmas Market crowds. After being herded on to an overcrowded bus that didn't take us to the station, we changed to another overcrowded bus that did, and then quickly made our way to the overcrowded train where no seats were available. The guide called to us to make our way down to the front of the train because she had heard that they were going to add more train cars at some point and we would sit as a group, so folks who had managed to find a seat here and there ended up losing them because of her instructions. Then we stood packed in the front car for another ten before we were told that they added train cars and to "run" to the other cars to find seats.
So this tour was mostly a "miss" for me. Nonetheless, this is a tour that, if it runs on schedule, can make for a nice afternoon, especially for those hesitant to navigate the train system on their own. But if stations are too crowded or people or trains are running late, it may be hard for some to keep up. I've read some of the feedback reviewers have offered that describe how they were "left behind" or that "they couldn't hear instructions," and after my brief experience I can see how that can easily happen.
