Adolf Hitler designated Munich as the ‘centre of the movement’. Post the horrors of the blood-soaked Soviet Republic, Munich presented a rich terrain for Hitler’s aspirations of command. We trace the dictator’s ascension to power and reign of terror: from the NSDAP’s initial large-scale gathering in Hofbräukeller to the unsuccessful coup attempt in 1923 at Odeonsplatz, leading up to Königsplatz where the party’s inaugural massive parades were hosted. We halt in the courtyard garden to discuss the resistance. We tour all significant squares and buildings that were instrumental in this grim chapter of Munich’s history, culminating in the devastation of this magnificent city.
