Wildenwart Castle - Nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Alps, just a few kilometers from Lake Chiemsee, lies the historic Wildenwart Castle ensemble. Following the rise of the revolutionary government, the Bavarian royal family, including Ludwig III, gathered at Wildenwart Castle, which became the new residence for the Wittelsbach family. In 1979, Max Herzog in Bavaria, a great-grandson of Ludwig III, moved into the castle with his family, which can be admired from the outside.

Prien am Chiemsee - In Prien, we board a Chiemsee fleet boat that takes us across the lake to Herreninsel island (ticket not included in the tour price, cash payment only). Before boarding, it’s worth visiting the Gothic-Baroque parish church Maria Himmelfahrt, known for its “crazy” church tower from the 18th century!
* Chiemsee ferry prices (2025): Adults: €13.00 / Children 6 - 15 years €6.50 *
In summer, travel leisurely from the town center to the harbor on the world’s oldest functioning steam tram, just as it did over 135 years ago. -
Herrenchiemsee Palace - Herrenchiemsee Palace was intended to be a replica of the Palace of Versailles, the residence of the French “Sun King” Louis XIV. However, due to financial constraints, the most magnificent and costly castle of Bavarian King Ludwig II was left incomplete. A 35-minute guided tour, which is highly recommended, allows you to explore all completed and some unfinished rooms. * Skip-the-Line Admission (2025) Adults €11.00 / Children under 18 years are free *
Your admission ticket also provides free access to the “Old Castle,” a former monastery building from the 8th century with stunning Baroque interiors. You’ll also see intriguing rooms where Ludwig resided during the castle’s construction, as well as the site of the 1948 Constitutional Convention. Within the historic complex, a restaurant offers fresh Chiemsee fish and a beer garden with a spectacular view over Lake Chiemsee and its islands. -
Fraueninsel in Chiemsee - We continue by boat to the 15.5-hectare “large” island Fraueninsel. Your knowledgeable guide will accompany you on a 30-minute island tour, showcasing and explaining all the notable sights, including the over 1000-year-old monastery church, the equally ancient ‘Tassilo’ lime tree, and the historic gate hall. The “Inselbräu” microbrewery is perfect for a culinary break, along with the many stalls of island fishermen.
-
Gstadt am Chiemsee - Back on the mainland, enjoy the most stunning view over the lake with the Alps in the background from the Malerwinkel in Gstadt. Before that, we’ll show you the spot where King Ludwig II crossed to “his” island on a natural beach. Did you know a private station was built just for him on the Munich - Salzburg railway line? We’ll show it to you!
-
The Eagle’s Nest - OPTIONAL (available only with the 11-hour “XXL-Time credit” tour): The Eagle’s Nest is accessible from May to October via special buses from the Obersalzberg plateau near Berchtesgaden (weather permitting). The building, perched spectacularly at over 1,800 meters (5,900 feet) above sea level, was constructed in just 13 months under challenging conditions at the behest of Martin Bormann. From the bus terminus, a 124-meter-long tunnel leads to the original elevator, which takes you to the ‘Kehlsteinhaus,’ now a restaurant, after another 124 meters.
Skip-the-Line Admission Eagle’s Nest (2025 - bus ride incl. lift):
Adults €31.90 /
Children 6 to 14 years: €16.50 * Please note that with the “11 hours” option, you can EITHER combine Lake Chiemsee with the Eagle’s Nest OR with Salzburg.
-
Salzburg - OPTIONAL (available only with the 11-hour “XXL-Time credit” tour):
Whatever your interest in Salzburg’s rich history, this vibrant city will captivate you with its charming squares and cultural abundance, paired with Salzburg hospitality. Based on your interests, your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the historical or popular highlights of Mozart’s city, such as Mozart’s birthplace, Mirabell Palace with its splendid garden, the Getreidegasse with its excellent shopping, and many “Sound of Music” filming locations, like the pavilion (“Gazebo”) in Hellbrunn Palace Park with its fantastic trick fountains! * Please note that with the “11-hours” option, you can EITHER combine Lake Chiemsee with the Eagle’s Nest OR with Salzburg. - Upper Bavaria - Between attractions and during transfers to and from your hotel, enjoy the journey in our luxurious minivans with panoramic glass roofs, full leather interiors, and all conceivable safety features, while receiving fascinating insights from your friendly and professional tour guide.

The 80 square kilometre Chiemsee, with its noteworthy historical, cultural, and picturesque sites, promises a myriad of unforgettable moments. Be excited about embarking on a delightfully educational and chiefly relaxing exploration tour with your proficient and amiable guide.
The most remarkable of all is the grandest and costliest castle - Herrenchiemsee, built by the peculiar storybook King Ludwig II, and a quaint community of 300 residents on the minuscule Fraueninsel. Numerous insider tips await you both here and on the mainland, promising to make this outing - complemented by the journey in our fresh, high-end, and cosy Mercedes or VW Minivans - a truly unique pleasure.
Our distinctive proposition also includes the prospect of meshing the must-sees of Lake Chiemsee with a guided exploration in SALZBURG or a journey to the EAGLE’S NEST (an 11-hour extension).
