From Marienplatz, we can wander through the famous Viktualienmarkt food market to the Sendlinger Gate, where another Christmas market awaits.
At the Isartor, the most beautiful of Munich’s three remaining city gates, you’ll be welcomed by the aroma of ‘Munich Feuerzangenbowle,’ prepared in a 9,000-litre giant boiler. The ingredients—rum, red wine, and sugar—are of particularly high quality.
Which of these Christmas markets we visit is flexible and decided on-site through mutual agreement.
- Munich Residenz - This Christmas market, known as the “Christmas Village in the Brunnenhof,” is uniquely charming due to its location in one of the seven courtyards of the historic Munich residence.
From here, it’s just a short walk to the next market at Wittelsbacherplatz…
- Wittelsbacherplatz - Visit the “Medieval Christmas Market” around the equestrian statue of Elector Maximilian I. if you want to mingle with knights and jugglers while enjoying Met. Don’t be surprised to see men in helmets, shields, and swords, or women in Burgfräulein costumes with birds of prey on their arms.
If you need a Christmas gift, you can choose from gold jewelry, lambskin, and handmade drinking horns.

- Stachus - Every Advent season, ‘Munich Ice Magic’ takes place at Karlsplatz in front of the western city gate. On the city’s largest mobile ice arena, people of all ages skate. From the ‘Panorama-Alm,’ you have the best view of the spectacle, possibly with a warming ‘Glühwein’ (mulled wine) in hand.

- English Garden - One of the most romantic places to enjoy the Advent season, the world’s largest inner-city park offers plenty of space, history, and attractions. With some luck, we might see the ‘Eisbach’ surfers enjoying their unique winter sport even in freezing temperatures.
And in the middle of the park is your guide’s favorite Christmas market…
- Haidhausen - Many consider the Haidhauser Christmas Market, held for over 40 years, the city’s most beautiful. The cozy Christmas atmosphere around a fountain in an idyllic area is truly special. Away from the hustle and bustle, you can fully enjoy the Advent season with over 50 wooden huts decorated for Christmas.
- Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt - The most unusual “Christmas Market” is “Pink Christmas” in Munich’s Glockenbach district. Visit in the late afternoon to see travesty artists, unique goods, and a diverse crowd, all accompanied by electronic music. Pink Christmas breaks a few Christmas market clichés while remaining quite relaxed! Open from 4 p.m.
(The duration of this visit depends entirely on your preferences—we’re happy to advise you!)
- Theresienwiese - On Theresienwiese, where Oktoberfest usually draws millions in late summer, the ‘Tollwood Winter Festival’ takes place every year from late November.
Tollwood is not a traditional Christmas market but a unique mix of culture, gastronomy, and crafts. The “Market of Ideas” offers international gifts, culinary delights, and enchanting decor.
With some vendors in heated tents, Tollwood is also a great place to warm up!
(The duration of this visit depends entirely on your preferences—we’re happy to advise you!)
- Nymphenburg Palace - The charming Neuhauser Christmas Market is about a 10-minute drive from the city center, making it a good stop on the way to Nymphenburg Castle. The baroque park is especially charming in winter. We also recommend touring the baroque interiors, where your guide will share historical insights and fascinating anecdotes about Nymphenburg.
Entrance fee per adult: €8.00 (children under 18 free)
