  • Kichijoji Daiyagai - ・On September 13, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm, witness a Shinto ritual where the spirits of deities are placed into the Mikoshi portable shrines. ・On September 14, from 3pm to 6pm, don a Hanten festival jacket and join the locals in carrying the Mikoshi through the town. Become a Mikoshi bearer! ・On September 15, from 3pm to 5pm, take part in the festival’s dedication customs and enjoy the hospitality of the townspeople. - Musashino Hachimangu - Musashino Hachimangu Shrine serves as the guardian shrine of Kichijoji. It is believed to have been established in the 8th century. Following the Great Meireki Fire in the 17th century, displaced Edo residents were relocated to this area and formed a village. Since then, Musashino Hachimangu has been the protective shrine of Kichijoji. Locals visit the shrine for various occasions such as New Year’s Day, festivals, family events, and New Year’s Eve.

Experience Mikoshi Parade in Kichijoji, Tokyo!
On September 13, 14, 15, the “Kichijoji Autumn Festival” is held. It’s a great opportunity to experience a traditional festival featuring the parade of Mikoshi portable shrines. You’ll watch as many as 11 Mikoshi, one from Musashino Hachimangu Shrine and 10 from each district of the town. Every Mikoshi group has its own distinctive style of carrying and shouting. At the highlight, all Mikoshi gather and demonstrate their performances.
Join this tour and your guide will tell you all about this festival and show you around the town which is full of festival atmosphere. On the 14th you can take part in carrying a Mikoshi with the townspeople and parade it around the town. Don’t miss this chance!
