It was established around 1820 by Captain Frederick Young, who was the first to construct a house in eastern Mussoorie. Subsequently, he began cultivating potatoes on a farm, now recognized as the Landour Market. Between 1820 and 1940, several schools, roads, and Air Houses were built by the British in Mussoorie. A walking tour in Mussoorie starts from Library Chowk and concludes at a location known as Picture Palace on the other side. The entire tour takes roughly 1hr 30min, during which, the guide provides insights about the mountains and historical sites found along the route. Numerous places constructed during the British era are still prevalent in Mussoorie today.
