Highlights
  • Somnathpur Temple - Somnathpur is famous for the magnificent Chennakesava temple. It has been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. This temple was built in 1268 by Somanatha, a general of King Narasimha III. We will explore the three shrines and three wonderfully carved peaks with a common Mandapa. The next couple of hours will be spent appreciating the 16 different ceilings, each depicting a different stage of a blooming banana flower, the central wall space adorned with images of deities with jewellery, bangles, crowns and anklets.

  • Keerthi Narayana Temple - Next, we will visit Keertinarayana temple, built using black granite and bricks, and a splendid example of Hoysala style of architecture. This was built to commemorate the victory of King Vishnuvardhan over the Cholas. The highlight of this temple is the 2-meter tall main deity of the Lord.

  • Talakad Panchalinga Temples - Hotel pick up will be at 730 am and we will head towards Talakadu, located 130km from Bangalore. The journey will take 3 hours.

Talakadu used to be a flourishing town with more than 30 temples during ancient times. The legendary Queen’s curse buried the entire town with sand dunes. We will visit Vaidyanatheswara temple, one of the 5 temples excavated from the sands. Over the next 2 hours, we will explore this granite structure built in the 14th century by Chola Kings and dedicated to Lord Shiva. We will also visit Pataleshwara Shiva temple where the Lingam is supposed to change colors through the day from red, black and white.

Temples outside Bengalore - It was an excellent visit. The Samnathpur temple was impressive and the guide gave an interesting and informative description. This temple together with Tipu summer palace (the one outside Mysore) must be visited. The Talakadu complex has a series of temples with a very interesting story associated with a 500 year old curse. To top.up this nice visit there was a ride on a bull cart. I have to say that the coordinator Vignesh was very helpful and he gave me a detailed introduction to the whole tour and the sites. A day worth spent.

incredible world heritage temple in Somnathpur - awestruck by the beauty, splendor, and intricacy of the depictions on the outer walls of the temple. it's mesmerizing to think that people had the ability to sculpt such incredible beauty so many centuries ago. a must-visit.

Extraordinary Carvings. - Carvings are extraordinary. One MUST take guide to learn and appreciate the art. It is very sad that we do not know gems of our own country. Instead, we wish to travel abroad.

Somnathpur is awe inspiring - Excellent tour would definitely recommend. Trip description was a bit different that what we actually did though. We didn’t go to the one of the temples, but the two stops were definitely enough, and I doubt the other temple could top somnathpur anyway. And there wasn’t an option for motorcycle rides or a little water ferry like in the photos of the tour. But will still be the highlight of the trip I’m sure. All the guides were friendly and super helpful

Somnathpur temple was the highlight - The tour itself was relatively short given the 2.5 hour journey to and fro from the temples. Our guide for the day was Vignesh and let me say that he was really pleasent and attentive. I brought my mother for this trip and he did all he could, from buying us coconut water to providing explanations during the trip, which was amazing. Whilst he was our guide, for each place we went to, there were local guides. Temples we visited especially the Somnathapura temple was the highlight of the trip. Gives you Angkor Wat vibes and is truly magnificent. The other temple in Talakadu was good too but i would skip that if given the choice. Now last but not least, the drive to the place. It was rough. Whilst we advise people never to do this tour on weekends as it gets super crowded on the road and the temples, the driver for our tour was not great. He navigated the roads well but driving was too rough
