A Ride Through Enchantment

As a seasoned surfer, I’ve spent countless hours chasing waves along the sun-drenched coasts of Central America. But every now and then, I crave a different kind of adventure, one that takes me away from the ocean’s embrace and into the heart of the land. That’s how I found myself in Nacascolo, embarking on the Rincón Waterfalls Experience—a horseback ride through the lush forests of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano.

Our guide, Alejandro, was a true gem. His knowledge of the local flora and fauna was as deep as the ocean I love so much. As we rode through the enchanting forest, Alejandro’s passion for nature was infectious. He pointed out the vibrant vegetation and shared stories of the land, making the journey as captivating as the destination itself.

The Las Chorreras waterfalls were a sight to behold. Cascading waters tumbled into the world-famous blue pools, their color so vivid it seemed almost unreal. The temptation to dive in was irresistible, and the cool water was a refreshing contrast to the warm sun that kissed our skin.

Swimming in those pools was like being cradled by nature itself. The water was a bit chilly, but invigorating—a reminder of the ocean’s embrace on a crisp morning. We lingered there, soaking in the beauty and tranquility, before continuing our journey.

Lunch was a delightful interlude at Hacienda Guachipelin. A buffet of traditional Costa Rican dishes awaited us, each bite a celebration of the region’s rich culinary heritage. It was the perfect fuel for the next leg of our adventure.

The Majesty of La Oropendola

Our journey continued along the banks of the Negro River, where more waterfalls awaited. Each one was a masterpiece of nature, a testament to the beauty that lies beyond the surf.

The climax of our day was the majestic La Oropendola waterfall. Standing 25 meters tall, it cascaded into a turquoise pool nestled in the heart of the Río Blanco canyon. The sight was awe-inspiring, a reminder of the power and grace of nature.

Though we couldn’t swim in La Oropendola, its beauty was enough to leave us breathless. As we made our way back, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the experience. It was a day of discovery, a journey that took me beyond the waves and into the heart of the land I love.
