• Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil - While in Sparta, a visit to the Greek Olive Oil Museum is a must. The museum showcases exact replicas of Prehistoric, Hellenistic, and Byzantine olive presses, illustrating their evolution to engine-powered presses. • Archaeological Site of Mystras - Located just 5 km from Sparta, Mystras is the next stop. The castle atop the hill, with its battlements and towers, was established by the Franks in 1249. Over time, it was fortified and occupied by the Byzantine Empire and the Ottomans. It was among the first Greek castles to be liberated in 1821. This historic site, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, offers a rich narrative as visitors explore. The tour will commence from Nafplion and proceed to Lakonia. The journey will continue 5 kilometers to Mystras, the final destination. Mystras, the last bastion of Hellenism before the Ottoman conquest, is encircled by the remnants of four deserted settlements, featuring remarkable post-Byzantine churches, houses, and Palaiologos palaces, and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the village beneath the castles, there will be an opportunity to enjoy lunch at one of the traditional taverns before returning to Nafplion.
