Highlights
  • Giraffe Centre - Begin your tour with a pick-up from your Nairobi accommodation or hotel. Your first destination will be the Giraffe Centre, home to Rothschild giraffes. The center’s primary mission is to protect and support the breeding of these endangered giraffes. Under the guidance of a professional, you can feed the giraffes from an elevated observation platform, bringing you face-to-face with them. The center also features a large auditorium where visitors can attend talks on giraffe conservation and learn about the various activities the center undertakes.

  • Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - Next, visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, where you can observe elephant calves up close. Daphne Sheldrick, as part of the David Sheldrick Conservation Foundation, rehabilitates baby elephants and other wildlife at her home just outside Nairobi National Park. These young elephants have lost their mothers due to poaching, death, injuries, or other misfortunes.

  • KOBE TOUGH beads & leather - Afterward, you’ll be driven to the Kobe Beads factory, a pottery company renowned for creating some of the world’s most beautiful beads. You’ll be guided through all the stages of bead-making, from start to finish. Enjoy lunch (at your own expense) at Bomas of Kenya before entering the auditorium for cultural dances.

  • Bomas of Kenya - Experience daily tribal cultural shows from 2:30 pm to 4 pm, showcasing tribal talents in music, dance, theatre/drama, fashion shows, poetry/recitals, and comedies. Great tour. Phenomenal tour guide. One thing I would change. - It was just me and the tour guide this day. My tour guide Stephen was phenomenal. He slowed down for photos, assisted me with getting my ticket to the park, and took pictures and videos for me since I was alone. I couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide. One thing I would like to mention that I think should be changed somehow. The price to the park is an additional fee that is mandatory because you are driving through it to get to where you’re going. If they could provide instructions on how to pay it or a link beforehand would be beneficial because the park doesn’t accept cash. Creating the account was a hassle due to the passport photo that kept zooming in on the picture and they didn’t accept certain cards. Because I wasn’t provided a link beforehand it just caused additional unnecessary stress, but thanks to Stephen it all got taken care of. Something to adjust for future tourists. Otherwise, I had an amazing day! Would highly recommend.

Book it without hesitation - This was a great way to discover Nairobi and its people . Stephen our guide was very helpful and sharing a lot of information throughout the day . Morning revolves around the animals , starting with the giraffe center at the opening where we got to hand feed giraffes , followed by the elephant and rhino rescue center where we got to experience the dedication put by the guardians . We stopped for lunch at the Utamaduni craft centre with plenty of local craft products to bring back home . We then visited the Kobe Tough beads and leather factory which was heartwarming seeing how the local women community has built a structure to integrate and produce fabulous handmade products. The Bomas of Kenya was our last stop and I would strongly advise you visit on a school week day as the reactions of the pupils who even joined the dancers on stage was for me almost as good as the show . I would definitely recommend this activity particularly if you have a limited time in Nairobi and want to experience some authenticity.

A full day of experience around Nairobi - We only had a couple of days in Nairobi and this tour had everything we wanted to do all in one day. We booked almost a month prior to our visit. Our guide Stephen was ready to pick us up right on time and took us directly to Giraffe Center at the opening time. We were one of the first ones in there and got to feed the hungry giraffes their breakfast :) Stephen showed us how we could pet them while feeding and took great photos while we were enjoying the experience. Thanks to our guide we were also at the very front of the crowd to see the baby elephants in the orphanage. We also enjoyed our time in bead making place and watching traditional dances in Bomas of Kenya. The restaurant for lunch was also carefully picked and had a full selection of meals from traditional Kenyan to international. I recommend booking this tour.

Great experience of animals and culture - Great experience! Wife and I picked up at our hotel by Wellington (more on him at the end) promptly at 8am. Picked up one other couple on the way to the Giraffe Center. Arrived about 5 minutes before it opened. Perfect. Fun and learning at the GC. Up close to feed the giraffes. Much better than seeing them at a zoo. Stopped at a shop on the way to the Elephant Orphanage. We didn’t buy anything but this would have been a place to buy some carvings. All sizes and poses of animals. Good place to grab a coffee soda or technical stop. Saw many baboons along the road to the orphanage. Again arrived in time to enter at 11am opening. Up close to see and touch the young and slightly older elephants as they were given milk, water and tree branches with leaves. There were 2 groups of elephants, each group consisted of 12-15 elephants. Head handler told about each elephant; name age, were found and in what condition and what the plan was to return them to the wild. Again so much better than seeing at a zoo. They also had a baby rhino that walked around and was amenable to petting! Bead center was fascinating. Good place to purchase all sorts of beaded necklaces and bands. Also beaded leather belts, bags and watch bands available. Lunch was at a local restaurant but, we were all still adjusting to time changes so we weren’t very hungry. On to the Bomas exhibition. Very colorful and lively demonstration of dancing, drumming and singing but performers who clearly enjoyed performing. Back to the hotel after a full day. A great way to spend the day! Well worth it. Boom early so you don’t get shut out of either the Giraffe Center or Elephant Orphanage. Our drive/guide for the day, Wellington was prompt, very pleasant, informative and a Great driver! Nairobi is very busy and he knew how to navigate the chaotic traffic as a pro. Felt very comfortable leaving belongings on the van so we didn’t have to carry everything all the time. Ask for Wellington!

A really fun day out - This tour was very good and a highlight of our time in Nairobi. However, we had to go a day later than scheduled as the day before the tour, we were advised that the Elephant Orphanage tickets had sold out despite booking two weeks in advance. They did manage to sort us out with a ticket the next day, however we would advise that if you are especially keen to see the elephant orphanage and don't want to risk missing out, you book directly through the Sheldrick website. The experience was very good, the driver, Wellington arrived promptly and was helpful in navigating around. The Giraffe Centre was less than an hour's drive from Nairobi centre and it was very fun being able to feed them. After that, we went to the elephant orphanage, which was an absolute delight, we saw the baby elephants as well as the baby rhino and the keepers were very informative. The Beads Factory was very interesting and a nice little pitstop on the way to the Bomas. The Bomas was a fascinating watch of incredible singing and dancing of different African tribes. A really amazing day trip that we would thoroughly recommend.

Not really a guided tour - Visiting the giraffe centre and elephant orphanage were incredibly experiences that were the highlights of my 2-week trip. But this isn't really a guided tour - it is just a driver taking you from location to location. Even worse, the driver wasted 45 minutes at a rest stop that wasn't listed on the itinerary so we all stood around waiting while the merchants tried to sell us items we didn't want, as we had already had a rest and done shopping right before while at the Giraffe Centre. This then made us late for the elephant orphanage. Each location provide their own guides as part of admission and they are the one who tell you about the history and all relevant info. The elephant orphanage would be better to book separately because you are paying $45 for entry to Nairobi National Park, but on the tour, there is no time to enjoy it.
