This mountain is situated in the heart of Kenya, slightly below the equator, and approximately 150 km (or 95 miles) to the north-northeast of Nairobi. Mount Kenya National Park, surrounding the mountain, is both a protected area and a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spanning about 620 km² (or 240 square miles), the National Park hosts up to 15,000 tourists annually.
