- Learn to Make Jewelry & Pottery from Clay - Kazuri Beads Factory - Our accredited guide will take you to the Kazuri Beads Factory, located on Mbagathi Ridge in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya. KAZURI, meaning “small and beautiful” in Swahili, began in 1975 as a small workshop experimenting with handmade beads. The factory is situated on what was once part of the Karen Blixen Estate, famous from the Academy Award-winning film “Out of Africa.” They have expanded their expertise in ceramics and artistic flair to create a unique range of pottery that reflects Kenyan culture and wildlife. Each piece is handmade and hand-painted in rich colors, ranging from individual collector items to dinnerware. Next, visit Matbronze, located in the historic suburb of Karen at the foot of the Ngong Hills. The foundry and attached gallery display over six hundred bronzes, from double life-size Crowned Cranes to tiny Sunbirds, and from an eight-foot Crocodile to men’s cufflinks. Recently, Matbronze opened a coffee bar and café, allowing you to enjoy the art and relax with refreshments in the gardens. The next stop is the Bomas of Kenya, where various aspects of Kenyan culture are showcased, including living styles, crafts, music, and dance. Conclude your tour with a visit to the Maasai Market, which is held at different locations each day of the week, before heading back to your hotel or the airport for your departure.
