Great cultural cooking class! - This is a great cultural experience if you have some extra time in Nairobi. Josephine was a great host, chef, and all around tour guide. We had a group of eight of us, four adults and four kids. first of all, she was good with managing our dietary restrictions. We had several vegetarians in our group, and the meal she planned for us was still completely authentic and flavorful. We got to do almost all of the cooking alongside of her, which was really fun and educational. It was especially nice to see the marketplace to buy the fruits and vegetables, and we got to take the music bus. That was definitely an experience that we would not have had if not for this tour. we do a cooking class and nearly every foreign city that we visit, and this by far was the most authentic. Do beware that it's at least a four hour experience. By the time you go to the market and travel back to her house, that's almost an hour and a half right there in time. If you have this time to spare, worth it!

The perfect way to get closer to Kenyan culture - That tour was phenomenal! Josephine is a patient, smart, funny and nice professor that will give a lot of insights about Kenyan culture! :) first she brings you into a Matatu to go to the market to buy stuff for the meal, and then you follow her at her home by a Matatu party bus! And then she shows you how to make a mouth-watering Kenyan stew with sides that you will want to cook over and over at home! She even offers you fruits and sugarcane as a snack! Top-notch hospitality!
A must to book in Nairobi! :D

Good for the Stomach and the Mind - Josephine is marvelous. With a child of her own, she was great with my kids. We had a chance to take a matatu (local bus) to and from the market where we bought the fruit and vegetables to go into our meal and then she welcomed us to her home for the cooking itself. Don’t shortchange yourself in talking with Josephine—she’s a wealth of insight into not just the cooking but Kenyan life as well. Well worth the trip.

Delicious food & wonderful chef - We - a group of 7 friends - booked the cooking class with Josephine and it was a great and especially varied experience. Not only did we cook but we also took local transport together, visited a local market and experienced a Kenyan household. Josephine is a very lovely and passionate host. We cooked a lot of things together - chapati, stew, mashed plantains, mixed vegetables, ugali... the food was delicious and just spending time with Josephine at her place was great. If you stay in Nairobi this is an activity that you should definitely consider.

Get out of your comfort zone and experience the real Nairobi. - Firstly, Josephine is one of the kindest, most gracious hosts imaginable. Her apartment and kitchen are simple. The meal you and her will cook will be delicious. And you will be safe. Mostly, as she escorts you through markets buying the food you will prepare and riding aboard local buses, as you rub elbows with ordinary Kenyans, I guarantee you will have an enjoyable and memorable time. So leave your 5-star hotel and spend 4 hours with Josephine for genuine Kenyan experience.

Could not ask for a better experience. - Josphine is a beautiful human being, inside and out, and her happiness and laughter are infectious. It is hard to know where to begin...she brought me to the places described in her schedule, but it was her warmth and kindness that really made this experience. She is like the best friend you never had, and throughout the day I felt like I was walking through town with my older sister. Not only do you cook with her, but you get to experience her fantastic hospitality. As soon as we came home from the market, she quickly whipped up a platter of fresh fruits for me and sat me down with a cup of water. Having been in another country where salads, fruits and friends were initially hard to find, this was especially appreciated. I felt so at ease that at one point I almost fell asleep on her couch! I don’t cook often and told her. As we cooked together, she proved to be a patient, knowledgeable, and hilarious teacher. We ended the night by eating with her and her beautiful family. She obviously cherishes her family and there is real love and affection in that home. We ate our fill and I left with two days worth of food, a full heart, and a new family. I will never forget it, and hope to find myself back in her loving home someday soon.
My only advice is don’t forget to pick up your own Tupperware on your way to meet her, as requested in her instructions. She sent me home with three of her own pieces. And if you have an awesome time (which you will!) remember to sit yourself down and write a review for your beautiful new friend!
