Highlights
  • Nairobi National Park - The tour begins with a hotel pickup and heads to Nairobi National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll immediately see how distinctive this park is. With the city’s skyline as a backdrop, you can spot lions, rhinos, buffaloes, hyenas, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, impalas, and more. Despite being just a few miles from downtown Nairobi, this is not a city zoo or theme park. Although it is the oldest (established in 1946) and one of the smallest parks in Kenya, sightings of lions and hyenas are common. The park is home to over 400 bird species, including the magnificent Ostrich. ‘Kifaru’ is Swahili for rhinoceros, and the park hosts the largest population of endangered black rhinos in Kenya, earning it the nickname ‘Kifaru Ark.’ As the rhino population grows, the park has become a source for relocating these endangered animals to other parks across the country. The tour then continues to Kobe Beads.
  • KOBE TOUGH beads & leather - Kobe Bead Factory is located 500 meters, or about a 10-minute walk, from Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages, and is very close to the Karen Blixen Museum. Founded by the late Lady Susan Wood in 1975, the factory was established to provide employment for struggling single mothers in the community. The workshop remains in its original location in Karen and now employs over 300 local women. Kobe Beads specializes in handmade ceramic beads, pottery, and genuine leather bags.
  • Karen Blixen Museum - This museum was once the African home of Danish author Karen Blixen, known for her book ‘Out of Africa,’ which details life on the estate. The museum is located half a kilometer from Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages and is open daily from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, including weekends and public holidays. Visitors can join guided tours that feature rooms decorated in the original style and with props from the 1985 film. The grounds, which include original equipment from the coffee farm, are also open for tours. After the museum visit, there will be a break for lunch (at your own expense).
  • Bomas of Kenya - The tour then proceeds to Bomas of Kenya, a cultural center in Langata. Here, talented resident artists perform traditional dances and songs from various tribal groups in the country, including Arab-influenced Swahili Taarab music, Kalenjin warrior dances, Embu drumming, and Kikuyu circumcision ceremonies. While it is a tourist attraction, it offers a spectacular afternoon experience. This is a must-visit for all tourists. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel around 5-6 PM.
