The Giraffe Centre is an initiative of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W. Kenya), a Kenyan non-profit organization. Its primary goal is to educate Kenyan school children and youth about their country’s wildlife and environment, while also offering local and international visitors a chance to interact with the world’s tallest species, the giraffe.

Before visiting the giraffes, you can enjoy lunch and then proceed to the Giraffe Centre.

• KOBE TOUGH Beads & Leather - (OPTIONAL) You will then be driven to Kobe Tough Beads and Leather. This pottery company creates some of the world’s most beautiful beads. You will be shown all the stages from start to finish. It is a unique factory as it employs single mothers from the local community, providing them with a livelihood to support their families. It’s a women empowerment center for the community. The center was founded by women who previously worked for Kazuri Beads Factory, which closed during the pandemic. This opportunity allowed them to continue supporting their families.

You then have the option of being driven to lunch and then to your hotel, with a later drop-off at the hotel.

• Utamaduni Craft Centre - (OPTIONAL) After the exciting beads factory tour, we are delighted to take you to the Utamaduni Crafts Centre, or we can proceed to your drop-off location.

Utamaduni is the best African craft shop in Nairobi and is a must-visit on the way to some of the exciting venues in Nairobi’s green suburb of Karen/Langata, known for the famous writer Karen Blixen’s original farm with beautiful views of the Ngong Hills. Include a visit to this unique house of crafts during your Nairobi visit.

The shop, a converted Kikuyu house with 18 shops, is a treasure trove of African crafts, antiques, and art, with friendly staff to assist and help pack or ship if needed.

After shopping, stop and enjoy refreshments in the large, beautiful garden restaurant, and if you are a bird watcher, the many exotic birds will keep you entertained.
