AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Amboseli National Park - After breakfast this morning, you will drive to Amboseli National Park, renowned for its large elephant herds roaming the expansive grassy plains, the Big Five, and the stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, among other flora and fauna.

Lunch will be served at your lodge before embarking on an afternoon game viewing drive.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park - Spend a full day in Amboseli National Park with two game drives. Travel across the vast lake bed, often dry but swampy in some areas. The park is home to a variety of wildlife including cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, gazelles, and herds of elephants, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.

For a nominal fee, you may visit a Masai Village to experience the lifestyle and vibrant culture of this nomadic tribe.

LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Lake Manyara - After breakfast, drive to the picturesque Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake nestled in a cleft of the Great Rift Valley. Complete customs and border formalities at Namanga border before proceeding to Arusha Kibo Palace for lunch. Then, enjoy an afternoon game viewing in Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

Ngorongoro Crater - Enjoy a leisurely morning at your lodge before departing for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The renowned Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area (NCCA) features rolling plains, lakes, craters, mountains, and dormant volcanoes. A hot lunch will be served at your lodge, followed by relaxation or an optional cultural village visit.

NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

Ngorongoro Crater - After breakfast, descend into the ‘8th Wonder of the World’, a unique biosphere that has remained virtually unchanged since ancient times. Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, saltpans, a freshwater lake, and a remarkable variety of birdlife. The ‘Big Five’ (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, and buffalo) are present, along with a large array of plains game and one of Africa’s densest predator populations. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before returning to the lodge for relaxation before dinner.

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, drive through the NCCA with picnic lunch boxes and cross into the neighboring Serengeti National Park, stopping en route at Ol Duvai Gorge. Known as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’, this is one of the world’s most significant prehistoric sites. Pioneered by renowned paleontologists Louis and Mary Leakey in the 1950s, it offers a glimpse into life two million years ago.

Arrive at your lodge in time to relax and enjoy a classic safari supper.

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, enjoy a full day of game driving (meals taken in true safari style ‘in the bush’) in the vast and spectacular Serengeti, which spans 14,763 sq km of endlessly rolling savannah. Known for ‘the greatest wildlife show on Earth’, the annual migration of over one million wildebeest, the park is also famous for its lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and plains game. Overnight at the camp.

MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Maasai Mara National Reserve - After breakfast and a short briefing by your driver guide, drive to the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, the backdrop to ‘the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth’, the annual migration of over one million wildebeest. Stop en route at Isebania border for customs and migration formalities. Enjoy picnic lunch boxes en route before arriving in time for a late afternoon game viewing drive in Kenya’s most popular reserve. Return to the lodge in time for campfire cocktails and dinner.

MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Maasai Mara National Reserve - Spend the day on safari in Africa’s richest wildlife viewing arena. Historically teeming with wildlife, the Mara hosts Kenya’s largest lion prides and elephant herds. Other predators include leopard, cheetah, and spotted hyena; while in the Mara River, you will see large pods of hippo and vast Nile crocodiles.

Other highlights include giraffe tops, gazelle, zebra, buffalo, and over 550 species of birds.

Consider flying over the Mara in a hot air balloon at an additional cost. The balloon package includes a champagne breakfast in the wild! If you can spare the expense, viewing abundant game from a balloon is an unforgettable experience. Alternatively, visit a Masai village to learn about the Masai culture at an extra cost.

LAKE NAIVASHA/LAKE ELEMENTAITA

Lake Elementaita - After breakfast, depart for Lake Naivasha/Lake Elementaita to arrive in time for check-in and a late lunch, followed by relaxation at your lodge.

CRESCENT ISLAND VISIT - LAST MINUTE SHOPPING - DEPARTURE

Crescent Island Game Park - This morning, enjoy a boat ride to Crescent Island - The Park where you walk with the Animals! There is only one “Crescent Island Game Park” located on Lake Naivasha, Kenya, in the Great Rift Valley. It boasts more animals per acre than any other Kenyan Park, attracting many film companies to capture the herds of wildebeest, waterbuck, zebra, and gazelle.

The animals are not fenced in, allowing wildlife from the mainland to enter as they lose their habitat to development and the growing population. Hippos graze all over at night, then rest under the acacia or in the water by day. Giraffes born on the Island return to give birth; sometimes, you can see three generations at once. Hyenas come to hunt at night but are not residents on the island, and the many pythons living here can occasionally be seen with a kill. Groups of buffalo come and go but are always monitored.

From the top of the hill, there is a 360-degree view across the Lake from Longonot to Hell’s Gate to the Mau Escarpment to Eburu and onto the Aberdares. Walking along the ridge during the golden hour before sunset while watching the animals graze with the water shimmering beyond is the essence of Africa. Take a boat back to the lodge.

Drive back to Nairobi, arriving in Kenya’s bustling capital city in the early afternoon. Spend time doing last-minute shopping. Lunch is at your own arrangement.

Transfer to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in time for your departure flight. Bid farewell to Africa until next time.

Far exceeded our expectations! Looking forward to our next adventure! - We booked a safari with Classic Journeys over 2 years ago and had paid the majority of our trip prior to COVID affecting worldwide travel. Charles was our first point of contact and stayed in touch with us until we were able to safely travel 2 years later. When we first booked the safari it was to be a family vacation for 4 people and later we switched to 2. Charles was able to upgrade our accommodations and extend the length of our trip. My wife and I embarked on a private 2 week safari encompassing Kenya and Tanzania at 6 different camps and lodges in July 2022. The communication was excellent and prompt and the customer service was fantastic! We researched the web prior to booking with Classic Journeys and were not disappointed! The cost was not the cheapest nor the most expensive and we were looking to get the most out of our experience without breaking the bank. Our guides, Dixon and Praygod, were knowledgeable and indispensable in making our safari a dream vacation for us both. We were able to see several different landscapes, environments and animals and our guides shared a wealth of information everywhere we went! We are looking forward to returning and using Classic Journeys to set up another safari in the future!

Unforgettable safari experience in Kenya & Tanzania! - Being an Argentinean family, we contacted our fellow countryman Justo Casal, from Merging Mundos in Kenya, who developed a customized 13-night safari and beach mixed itinerary in Kenya and Tanzania, based on our interests and expectations. That proved to be the best choice we could have made, as we had the vacations of our lifetime! And Classic Journeys played the fundamental role in that experience, being our hosts and companions from start to finish, with Elvis always reachable at any time to help with anything we might need. We started our trip in Nairobi, for visiting an Elephant Orphanage and a Giraffe Center, and then continued to Massai Mara to initiate our true safari experience. Based on our experience and the fact that it had been raining a lot the few previous days in Kenya, which was totally untypical in january/february, it was critical we were given very capable drivers/guides along with 4x4 Land Cruisers. Several roads inside the parks and even in-transit between parks, were absolutely challenging and quite impassable, with very deep mud, water and flooded bridges, and only thanks to Amir in Kenya and Mirage in Tanzania and their excelled driving capabilities, we were able to make it. For sure other 4x4 minivans that usually crowd the parks, would have been left stranded, as we actually witnessed some! After Massai Mara, we turned into Tanzania and visited the immense Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area: a magnificent creation of nature! Then we headed back to Kenya, for visiting Amboseli, with its unique and stunning views of Mt Kilimanjaro, and Tsavo National Parks. During our safari tenure, we experienced a combination of jungle lodges and luxury tented camps, which provided my wife and three kids with a real taste of wildlife. And of course we needed to spend several hours each day as passengers either in the park on a game drive, or transiting between parks, for which you must get used to. Our program ended up with a largely deserved 3-day stay in Diani Beach, near Mombasa, for total relaxation in those white sandy beaches, while taking warm sea baths in the Indian Ocean, and enjoying nice African food in one of the many international resorts. Visiting Wasani Island for dolphins watching and snorkeling was the proper closing to our journey. Definitely East Africa has a lot to offer for a one-of-a-lifetime vacation, you should give it a try!

Outstanding Trip with Classic Journeys - We had a rough itinerary for our first trip to Africa, and we wanted to visit Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. We had never done anything of this duration and scope before, and we were reliant on Elvis Ayieko and his great staff for their recommendations and input. We changed our plans several times, and Elvis was extremely patient with our questions and modifications. This was truly a trip of a lifetime for us. We started our trip in Uganda with a short visit to see and raft the Nile River. The accommodations in Jinja were wonderful, and Joseph, our driver was great. We took a short flight from Entebbe to Nairobi, where we were picked up by Chris, and we began our savannah safari experience early the next day. George was our guide and driver in Kenya and he was outstanding. He is very knowledgeable and taught us a great deal about the wildlife and the ecosystem of the Serengeti. He always went out of his way to highlight interesting spots along the way and inform and educate us about the fascinating culture of Kenya. We visited Samburu National Park, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Masai Mara National Game Reserve. Our timing placed us in the middle of the Great Migration, and we got to see lots of wildlife. We switched guides at the border, and once again, our guide Hassan was always polite, helpful and knowledgeable. In Tanzania we visited the huge Serengeti National Park, and the Ngorongoro National Conservation Area. Truly a gem of our planet! The wilderness camps in the Serengeti were especially fascinating. We then crossed the border back into Kenya, and we were fortunate to have George as our driver once again. We then visited Amboseli National Park before heading back to Nairobi (with Chris as our guide again) to see the Karen Blixen House and the Kenya National Museum. I can't recommend this company enough. The lodging was all topnotch and the food was always outstanding. And finally, one of the main highlights of the trip was the friendly, considerate people we met. Travel in Africa can be difficult, but the tour guides, and the hotel staff were always kind, courteous, and helpful and made the trip a real joy.
