Start your adventure with a pickup from your hotel in Diani Beach and head to Shimba Hills National Reserve. Upon reaching Shimba Hills, pay the park entrance fee at the gate and proceed into the reserve for a morning game drive.

This small-group tour ensures ample personal attention from the guide, who will assist in spotting animals, birds, and other attractions throughout the day. Look out for the reserve’s remarkable wildlife in the grasslands and forests of Shimba Hills; the park is particularly renowned for sightings of the endangered sable antelope, known for defending against predators with their long, scimitar-shaped horns.

Bird enthusiasts can add to their “life lists,” as Shimba Hills is home to 111 bird species, including 22 coastal endemics like the ostrich eagle, African hawk, and honey guide. After the game drive, continue exploring on foot: take a guided walk to Sheldrick Falls, a 1- to 2-hour round-trip hike, and enjoy the lush surroundings of lianas and greenery around the 69-foot (21-meter) waterfall.
