Great day! Active, fun, and beautiful views! - My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this one day excursion from Nairobi to Hell's Gate with Harrison our driver and Jaffar our guide. The bicycle ride through the park while viewing zebras, giraffes, gazelles and more was spectacular. We stopped for short walks and Jaffar provided interesting explanations of the area. When we reached the end of the bike ride, we met a Masai guide who joined us as we walked into Ol Njorowa gorge. Wow! The path and the waterfalls were stunning, as was the final summit viewpoint. In the early afternoon we took the small boat ride in Lake Naivasha and loved seeing the pelicans, storks and other birds, and observing the peaceful wildlife on Crescent Island. The day trip was easy to arrange, and we had so much fun spending the day with Harrison and Jaffar. I highly recommend this trip!

Driver was excellent-Climb down in Hells Gate is strenuous! - It was wonderful to have a knowledgeable driver to pick me up and drop me off all day long. My driver was Joash. I had a wonderful, safe, relaxing day seeing Kenya. One warning, the climb down at Hells Gate is quite strenuous. Wear good shoes! My friend and I are 58 and 65, decent condition. We were worried several times about falling on the rocks. There are stairs on the way back up. You may want to ask about it. Lunch was good, and the price of lunch was excellent. Joash stopped for us when we asked. I recommend this trip and Joash!

Nice active day trip from Nairobi - We had a great day out with David. David picked us up on time and took us to Hell's Gate via a viewpoint to look out at the rift valley. At Hell's Gate we were paired with Frederick as our guide. After quickly testing out our bikes, we embarked on an 8km bike ride into Hell's Gate. The ride wasn't too hard, and we saw plenty of wildlife along the way. At the end of the ride, we hiked along the gorge for about 45 minutes before getting a car to take us back since the day was really heating up.
David then took us to a restaurant at Lake Naivasha to place lunch pre-orders. We then went on the boat ride on the lake (make sure you have $25 USD per person for this) during which we saw hippos and plenty of birds. Our lunch was ready for us when we got back to the restaurant, and we then drove back to Nairobi.
Overall, this is a really nice day trip to see a part of Kenya that is quite different from both Nairobi and the Masai Mara, which we enjoyed.

A phenomenal day out of Nairobi! - Wow, what a phenomenal day! Everything has been spot on. Amazing views on the valley, a great bike ride in Hell’s Gate - completely doable, I am not a great cyclist and it was easy enough - spotting buffalos,
Zebras, giraffes, warthogs, gazelles, monkeys, rock hyraxes - followed by a hike in the gorge which was great, and again easy, and then the boat ride to see the hippoes, so many birds, and a mini safari from the boat looking over Crescent Island - wilderbeasts, giraffes, ostriches, impalas, fish eagles. And then a lovely lunch and return. Patrick, our guide and driver, and Robert, our guide at Hell’s Gate are so great. I can’t recommend them enough. I hope I’ll get the chance to travel with them again soon. I am so grateful I chose this as a day trip out of Nairobi. I have done safaris in Tanzania and Namibia before and this was super exciting even if I am not a safari newbie. Super reasonable price for a great service! Thank you guys!

Words can't explain how magical this was - Words can't describe how amazing this tour was!! As a woman travelling solo I was a little apprehensive about doing this alone but I needn't have been afraid. The tour was easy to book and the communication was fantastic! My driver Patrick picked me up at my hotel and WhatsApp'd me beforehand to let me know what time to expect him. I ended up doubling up with another solo lady on this tour and Patrick could not have been kinder, he got us water, offered to stop so we could get coffee and snacks and gave us a great tour of Nairobi and history of all the areas on the way to each of our stops. Stop one was a view over the great rift valley where again we were able to get a little bit of history from the locals and make a toilet stop and buy some souvenirs. Then it was about an hours drive to Hells Gate National Park where we met our next guide Robert. We started by picking out our bikes and then off we went into the park. Both myself and the other lady on the tour were a little apprehensive about biking in the heat but Robert was so patient and stopped whenever we needed or whenever we saw any zebras, giraffes, Buffalo or warthogs (of which there were a lot) or if there was any fun history and facts to share about the animals or park. He even taught us some Swahili as we went around the park. We biked our way over to the gorge which took a couple of hours and again he was do patient as we navigated around (I would suggest you wear good walking boots or trainers as you will be walking on rocky and uneven terrain here) making sure we were comfortable and stable and allowing us to spend as much time as we wanted taking pictures and asking questions. By the time we had seen the gorge is was midday and searing hot heat so were offered a car ride back through the park rather than having to cycle. This was much appreciated as the way back is slightly uphill and the sun was at its strongest at this point. Patrick came back to pick us up but we didn't miss any animals we were still able to stop and take pictures everytime we saw any wildlife through the park. Our final destination was the boat tour on Lake Naivasha. I thought nothing could match up to the mornings bike tour but boy was i wrong this is well worth the $25. We met our next guide who took us on his boat on the hunt for the hippos and he got us as close to them as was safe - we saw so many and he spent lots of time giving us a history and tour of the lake and across to crescent Island where from the boat we saw more giraffes, monkeys, eagles, elands and much more. He even brought fish to feed to the birds so we got some incredible videos of the eagles in flight. Overall this was an absolutely incredible day everyone bent over backwards to make sure we saw as much as possible and had the most incredible tour I'm only sad that it's over and I haven't got time to repeat it.

A pleasant day trip - This was a great day trip from Nairobi to see hells gate. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience biking through the park and walking through the gorge. They allowed us to test bikes before we chose them and provided us with a guide who was very friendly and made the experience enjoyable for us. We chose not to do the boat ride but still enjoyed a nice lunch near the water and got back to Nairobi by 4pm. Harrison is a super nice and friendly guy who drove us and was very timely. The bike ride is slightly downhill on the way in and slightly uphill on the way out but not difficult. Walking through the gorge was a highlight and we didn't see many other groups doing it. Overall a pleasant day trip that didn't last late into the evening.

A great day out - Overall, a fantastic day trip. Both our guides, Jaffer and David were great - super helpful and we had a great chat with them in the car journey too!
Hell’s Gate was excellent. The bike ride is fun, a bit challenging and you really do see and get close to animals. We saw zebras, impala and some giraffes too. Beautiful scenery.
The gorge is amazing too - a great walk down and very scenic. The guides were very helpful with any challenging steps.
We visited Lake Naivasha in the afternoon for the boat ride and admittedly didn’t see as many animals. Perhaps this was down to timing but we personally could have done without this part of the trip. It was nice to see animals and birds from a boat but nothing we hadn’t seen already.
Would recommend this day out to others. Thanks Jaffer and David for making this so enjoyable.

Highly recommended - fun, full of adventure - I'd highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting Kenya. It's easily one of the most fun I've had in any of my travels. The cycling at the park was awesome - I don't think I've ever cycled anywhere so beautiful before. You also get to be up close with some of the wild animals there like the zebra, antelope and giraffes. This is a very nice change from watching them from afar at the other safari. There's a Fishchers tower about 1km from the entrance where you can do some rock climbing for Ksh 1000. I did it and it was super fun (disclaimer: I have climbing experience). The cycle back was a bit tougher than the way in, because it's a bit uphill and you go against the wind. It's also quite hot by the time you get back. On this point I'd like to feedback to the organiser to start the tour earlier. I think I was pretty fast even with the stop to do the climb, and I still ended at 12 plus and it was really hot.
My driver Harrison was lovely. He drove comfortably, and attended to my needs. I loved the conversations about the local culture.
I docked one point because of the Great Rift Valley viewing. They brought me to a spot with very pushy sellers and guides. The boat ride at Lake Naivasha was nice enough, but I don't think it's worth the 25 USD price.
A little warning to whoever taking this tour. Every segment is run by different people and you're expected to tip every guide. There's the driver (again, he was lovely, no complaints here), the guide at the cycling, the boat operator, the waiter at the lunch place, and the 'guide' at the Great Rift Valley. So do bring enough cash with you. Also, put on sun block and have your whatever sun protection. It gets really hot at the lake and at the park.

If you have gone on... - If you have gone on safari, I would not do this tour. We had done safari just prior to visiting Nairobi and this was honestly a waste of time to us. We wish we had spent our little time hanging out in the city. It was 5.5-6 hours of driving from Nairobi, followed by 11 miles of biking on a torturous bike (seriously, they should maintain those bikes better), a short hike thru a gorge where we were told we couldn't see the actual interesting part of the gorge because of risk of flooding, and then a lunch at a restaurant that did NOT overlook the lake. If you only have a few days in Nairobi - don't do this tour. If you have time, I would instead recommend staying a couple of nights at one of the lakeside accommodations such as Sopa Resort. If you don't opt for the boat tour, you don't even go to the lake! I'm not sure why they call this a Lake Naivasha tour. If you still want to see this area, I recommend hiring your own car, taking a land cruiser through the park, and having lunch somewhere lakeside. I wish the other reviews had been more honest so I could have saved one of my precious 3 days in Nairobi.

Worth a day trip from Nairobi! - We had some time before our safari so decided to book a private day trip to Hells Gate National Park and Lake Naivasha. Our driver, Stephen, promptly picked us at the scheduled time. Stephen definitely made the experience enjoyable and pleasant with his knowledge of the area. He was skilled at navigating the numerous trucks on the road. He provided us with water for our time in Hells Gate.
We were surprised of the vehicle choice, a Honda car for an over two hour drive to Hells Gate from Nairobi and the two hour return trip. It didn’t make for the most comfortable ride given I am 6’1” (185cm). Even my partner who is not as tall had difficulty with the satisfaction of the ride.
Hells Gate landscape and the wildlife delivered as promised. Daniel was our park guide. His knowledge of the landscape and behaviour of the animals as well as his playful personality and engaging disposition served to enriched our overall experience. We biked from the park entrance gate to the gorge. Along the way, we saw Fischer’s Tower, cliffs and Central Tower. The main wildlife was giraffes, zebras, antelope and buffalo. Daniel stopped wherever we liked and was able to find the spots to make sure we had the best views.
The hike through the gorge was eye-catching. We were enchanted by the gorge. To experience the beauty and waterfalls that were hot to the touch was unique. The day had heated up when we finished the hike and got back on the bikes for the slightly uphill ride back. We would recommend taking a car back to the gate.
Afterwards, we stopped for lunch. The service was excellent. The time to refresh was nice. The meal was lacklustre. We chose not to do the boat ride. We did stop by Lake Naivasha to take in its vastness and various bird species.
Overall, definitely worth the drive to experience the beauty of Hells Gate by bike and foot. Stephen and Daniel excellent ambassadors to their homeland. The selection of the vehicle and place for lunch lowered the bubble rating to a three.
