We meet and begin kayaking in the small seaside town of Jenner. After a brief safety talk and paddling instruction, we hit the water and explore the beautiful Russian River where it joins the Pacific Ocean. Your guide will enthusiastically discuss the area’s history, wildlife, landscape, seasons, and whatever else you can possibly think of. Questions are highly appreciated and looked forward to by our staff. The paddling is gentle and we keep our eyes open for a variety of wildlife including river otters, pelicans, osprey, and curious harbor seals. We will land on the beach and check out the ocean before getting back in the boats and heading back to Jenner. Your guide can offer great recommendations for other beaches and options in the area for you to continue your day of adventure. All gear used by guests is sanitized by our staff after every tour.

Join us on a thrilling Sonoma Coast Kayak Tour that whisks you off to the breathtaking Pacific Ocean shores to witness the convergence of the Russian River with the sea. This splendid day on the water features plenty of fauna including birds, seals, possible whale sightings and serene river relaxation. The tour, lasting around 2.5 hours, involves river paddling and leisurely beach strolls with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
- Subject to favorable weather conditions. If canceled due to poor weather, you will be given the option of an alternative date or full refund.
- Please bring water shoes or sandals.
- We will get wet. Bring clothes you won’t mind getting wet and consider bringing a change of clothes.
- The weather at the coast can change quickly. Please bring an extra layer in case it is a bit chilly. It’s better to have more clothes than you need rather than wish you had an extra layer.
- Due to Covid-19 we are unable to supply food or beverages. If you would like lunch during or after your tour please feel free to bring something to enjoy or your guide can recommend some of our fantastic local cafes or restaurants.

Your guide will meet you at the top of the boat ramp in front of the Sonoma Coast Visitor's Center in Jenner. There is very limited cell service at the meeting location and twisty roads to get out there so please plug in driving directions ahead of time to best estimate driving times.

Erik is passionate and knowledgeable!! - Two other groups canceled and Erik honored our reservation that turned into a private tour. He is a guide with integrity and kindness. In addition, he provided recommendations for the remainder of our stay! Do not pass up an opportunity to learn more about this beautiful area and experience a relaxing two hours. Book it!!

Awesome River Kayak Tour w Erik! - What an amazing day kayaking with such an awesome guide Erik. This was the highlight of our trip to the coast. I cannot say enough great things about the experience. Erik is very knowledgeable and a great guide. And the scenery was amazing. I never write reviews but this one warranted one. I highly recommend!

Wonderful experience! - We discovered Smart Tours on Trip advisor, like everyone does. We started communicating with the owner, Erik, about a month before we were planning to be in the area. We did not want a guided tour, and Erik was super accommodating about “customizing” our experience. He was always responsive to my many questions as we approached our preferred date for the trip. When we arrived in Jenner, Erik went through all the details of what we were going to see (lots of wildlife, including the seal populations on the beaches!). He told us the best routes and what to avoid. The setting is amazing, because it it’s near the area where the Russian River empties into the ocean. In the end, we paddled for almost three hours, and had an experience that we will never forget. Erik is a very personable guy and I’m sure would make a great guide for the group tours he offers.
I highly recommend this company!

A wonderful Kayaking experience - We had fantastic time. We really appreciated all information about clothings and tips we received by email prior to our to be prepared to have a good experience despite the weather and it was also very helpful to locate the meeting point.
The day of the tour the weather “collaborated” as it was a beautiful sunny morning and not very windy day.
Eric is very knowledgeable and we learn a lot about the area! We loved kayaking and we are looking to do it again with more friends!

Experience nature up close. - We enjoyed every minute of our kayaking tour with Erik. A great way to see nature, even for the inexperienced kayaker.. The beautiful calm waters and the brisk temperatures were a welcome change of pace after a few days in Napa. Loved seeing the variety of birds and of course the seals! Erik is knowledgeable about this beautiful area and we were happy recipients of all that he shared.

10/10 considering doing again - Erik provided detailed instructions for attire, arrival, and parking. He was easy to spot at the location, with an immediately warm and funny personality. He gave us a quick briefing about kayak safety and then we were off! We began the tour going up the Russian River, spotting cows, gulls, and even a blue heron. He provided rich and thorough history of the river, environment, and community on the Sonoma Coast. The latter half of the tour was us heading to the mouth of the river, where we encountered numerous young, friendly seals. Erik went above and beyond by not only sending us a link of all the photos he took of us and the wildlife we encountered, but he provided a list of recommendations for food and activities in the area after. Overall, Erik's tour far exceeded our expectations and is easily the highlight of our trip.

Great way spend the morning! - Wonderful experience and amazing guide! Erik was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about both the area and local wildlife. You get the best of both words on this tour- the river as you paddle upstream and the ocean, where you end the tour. I highly recommend it!

Kayaking for beginners - Erik was a wonderful tour guide and made this trip enjoyable and interesting. For a first timer kayaking had a great time with the group and do recommend this trip if time permits.

Truly memorable - This was a truly memorable kayaking experience. Worth every penny. Our guides Eric and Tim were knowledgeable, attentive, interesting, and funny. They took care of every participant no matter what the kayaker’s skill level. We saw amazing wildlife including hundreds of seals and sea lions. Our family of six ranged in age from 13 to 70 — each one of us thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Fascinating and fun! - Eric provided an excellent kayaking experience! He was informative about nature and sea life but also able to provide information about the area in general. His communication was excellent both before and after our trip. We had a group of ten, so Eric’s dad joined the trip -they are both a lot of fun! It’s also good to note that he emphasizes safety and takes his guests on a route that is easy to navigate. This would be fine for all ages and levels of experience.
