• 2 Nelson Quay - Your cycling adventure kicks off at the Takaro Trails base located at 9 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri, Napier. Start with a tour briefing to determine your cycling distance on the northern route today. Begin your journey with a short ride to the National Tobacco Building, one of New Zealand’s most photographed landmarks, known for its unique Art Deco architecture. Now housing the Tony Bish Urban Winery, it’s the perfect spot for a wine tasting! Continue on the cycle trail, meandering approximately 10kms through a low-lying wetland area that was once a large tidal inlet before the 1931 earthquake. The trail then winds through sheep farming country, completing the 20km loop back to Ahuriri. Conclude your ride with a well-deserved lunch and drink on the deck of one of the many waterside bars or seaside cafes in Ahuriri.

• Ahuriri Napier i-SITE Visitor Information Centre - At a designated time, return to our base to catch the shuttle to the Napier i-SITE, where you can wait for the ship transfer to the port and your cruise ship.

Discover Hawke’s Bay by bike – an enjoyable and straightforward ride to visit the region’s top wineries. Choose to indulge in a wine tasting or enjoy a meal before returning to the starting point at Takaro base in Ahuriri. Shuttle services are available to and from the Napier I-site (4km distance) and can be booked as an extra. Shuttle times will be arranged based on your ship’s arrival, with our van ready approximately one hour after disembarkation. (Note: Not all wineries are open daily; please check the winery opening days in the information below.)

Your route is an easy, self-guided cycling path (approximately 20km/12 miles, around 2 hours of cycling, but can extend up to 40km/24 miles if desired). The path follows a dedicated coastal cycleway beside the Pacific Ocean, through farmland, and along estuary trails where you will pass through a birdlife sanctuary. Along the way, visit some of our world-renowned wineries (Crab Farm, Mission Estate, Church Road, Urban Winery), all located within 7-13km.
