Great Day in Nara with Lito our Guide - So let me start by saying if you want the best experience possible, ask for Lito as your tour guide. He was amazing! He had a great personality and had all kinds of interestes, in between to getting of places of interest we had great conversations, no awkwardness. So we started the tour right outside of Nara station at the Lawson. Incredibly easy to get to and easy to fine. He had our day all planned out to see the highlights and asked if we wanted to see anything in particular. We got on the bus and headed over to see the Big Buddha. The Buddha itself and the overall temple were incredible. Lito was knowledgeable and told us the history, we walked around the whole place and he explained everything. We then went off to the famous deer area. Lito explained how this area came about and why the deer. We bought crackers and fed them and he even showed us how to make them now before taking a cracker…YES I am serious!! 😊 We wandered around the area walked over to one of the shrines. He explained what it was for, why certain shrines look different then others and what was fun was that to get there, we told all these little back trails where we got to see some cool nature, including a tree that was 1000 years old and what no one can figure out whether a branch or root is coming out of it, but it crossed over the path and they put metal poles in place to hold it up. Lito explained different festivals and ritual that are done on the area. Then we got back on the bus and went over to the market area near the station and went through all the alley ways with shops and restaurants. Once we ended the tour we had decided where we wanted to have lunch and he took us there and went in to make sure we got seated and helped us with our order to make sure everything was correct. As a bonus he is a very good photographer and took pictures with our phone and his which he sent us after the tour. Again, I cannot say how much we would recommend this tour as it hits all the highlights you would want to see or heard about and Lito made it a great experience. I would let you know to make sure you either have a SUICA Card or change for the buses. Each bust was no more than 200 yen. You should also have cash for the temple. It is inexpensive but they only take cash.
