Nara, an ancient capital that predates even Kyoto, is convenient to visit by train from either Osaka or Kyoto. The colossal Main Hall of Todai-ji Temple houses the majestic Great Buddha, and the deer park offers chances to interact with semi-wild deer by feeding them crackers. The atmosphere in Nara is more relaxed and quiet than Kyoto, with less tourist traffic. Take a relaxing walk through the expansive temple premises and back into the city where the tour includes a traditional Izakaya standing bar, offering local sake and food. Nara in a time crunch - We were transiting from Kyoto to Osaka and thought we could squeeze in a quick trip to Nara, which this tour definitely accomplished. We did the tour with Noriko and to our pleasant surprise, her English was very good and she was able to give us a detailed background of everything we saw. The highlight definitely are the deer though! We appreciated the detailed itinerary that was sent well in advance as well as the clear instructions of the meeting spot. One tip for travellers--if you have bags and are doing a day trip like us, take advantage of the lockers in the subway line as free hands definitely make this trip more enjoyable.

Amazing guide - Great tour and an amazing guide. It was like I was on tour with an old friend Noriko was such a lovely guide and it was great going with a local who knew the area. She contacted us before made sure we knew where we were going and adjusted the tour based on our needs. Thank you Noriko.

Fantastic 4 hours in Nara - We had a wonderful afternoon with Shigeyuki exploring Nara. A very friendly and informative guide. We saw so much more than if we had been going solo. The tour is probably not suited to persons with mobility issues but I have no doubt Shigeyuki would arrange the tour to suit any ability level .
