Awesome Wifi - Outstanding experience - Fast pick up and easy drop off. Used in Hakuba for a family ski trip. Resort had plenty of Wifi but not nearly as fast as the portable Wifi we hired.

This gadget is a must and essentially... -
This gadget is a must and essentially pays for itself. Easy pick up and drop off at the Narita airport terminal we flew into and from. We had 4G wifi for four devices for 14 days and we travelled several hundred miles across Japan. We lost signal twice for around 12 hours, but we were 25 miles off shore on a boat -. Only down side on this device is battery life, the manual says 8 hours and it's correct, you only get 8 hours, so top up the charge where you can or do as we did and carry a power stick to power it up when it goes flat.

We used it calling some of our friends, we could hear them loud and clear even when we were in the subway. I will totally used this again when we go back to Japan.

It has its issues - It worked while we were in main cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima. Poor coverage or no service in smaller towns and when traveling around mountains or inside Shinkansen bullet train. We used the hotel wifi to check for urgent email and messages in places with no coverage. You can make or receive calls after activating wifi calling in your phone settings. Bring an extra battery for your cell phone so you don’t run out of battery while you are still site seeing a bit later in the day. Your phone’s battery will need to be recharged a LOT sooner while using portable WiFi. With my teens and I hooked up to the same wi-Fi device, it would overheat and shot down until it cooled after a few hours. I recommend shutting off your WiFi in your phone while not in use to minimize overheating the device and to preserve the phone battery.
