Mt. Fuji 5th Station - Mount Fuji features ten stations, with the fifth station situated at an altitude of 2,305 meters on the mountainside. It is the highest point accessible to non-climbing tourists, offering a stunning view of the sea of clouds. Visitors can also send a postcard from the small post office at this altitude, marked with Mt. Fuji’s unique postmark, making it a memorable experience. [In winter, the ice and snow of Mt. Fuji reach the first station, allowing access to the highest point officially permitted in Japan.]
Special notice: During Japan’s annual mountaineering season, the toll road to the fifth station of Mt. Fuji is closed to private vehicles. Visitors must park in the designated lot at the mountain’s base and take a shuttle bus to the fifth station. The round-trip bus fare is 1,860 yen per person, payable by the visitor. - Oshino Hakkai - Often referred to as the “Little Switzerland of Japan,” Oshino Hakkai is located in Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. The spring water here originates from Mount Fuji’s snowmelt, which seeps into the ground, is filtered through lava rocks, and takes over 80 years to emerge at Oshino Hakkai. As a result, the water is exceptionally clear and rich in minerals.
- Lake Kawaguchiko - The reflection of Mount Fuji in Lake Kawaguchi, described as “the jade fan hanging upside down in the East China Sea and the sky,” is considered one of Mount Fuji’s wonders. Visitors can enjoy a cruise to admire the scenic mountains or take the cable car on Mount Tenjo for a breathtaking view of Lake Kawaguchi, especially during the red leaf season. If the weather permits, cycling by the lake is also a delightful option.
- Chureito Pagoda - Located in Arakurayama Sengen Park in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, this is one of the premier spots to view Mount Fuji. The park’s highlight is the Chureito Pagoda, a striking red five-story structure that beautifully contrasts with Mount Fuji and the ever-changing natural scenery.
