Lake Ashinoko - Lake Ashi is beautiful, and the Hakone Shrine is famous for its large red torii gate along the shore, known as the “Gate of Peace” (Heiwa no Torii). Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu - Hakone Shrine (箱根神社, Hakone Jinja) is located at the base of Mount Hakone along Lake Ashi’s shores. The shrine is hidden in a dense forest but marked by large torii gates, one prominently in the lake and two others on Moto-Hakone’s main street. A path leads from the lake’s torii gate up steps flanked by lanterns to the shrine’s main building, nestled among tall trees. The shrine is beautiful year-round, especially when misty.
