Insightful and moving tour. - Insightful and moving tour with a focus on the experiences of slaves at Belle Meade, particularly children jockeys and women. Our expert guide, Anastasia, really emphasised and brought to life the horrific experiences of those enslaved at Belle Meade and other similar establishments. Important messages that everyone should ponder on.

Journey to Jubilee tour with Jeff was incredible! - We did the Journey to Jubilee tour. It was incredibly informative and eye opening. We would absolutely have done the Mansion tours well if time permitted. We could have easily spent 3-4 hours there looking around the grounds as well. We had lunch there and sat on the deck which was pleasant. Jeff was a great tour guide, all the staff we interacted with were lovely from the moment we walked in to getting lunch at their restaurant at the end. We had unfortunately been running late and called to let them know we were getting there right at 12:30 (When tour was set to start). She let us know she would be waiting for us, she had bracelets ready and briskly walked us up to meet the rest of the tour. ** Note- get there 30 minutes before tour as asked in the confirmation email**

Excellent tour-sensitive and thought-provoking - I am glad Belle Meade openly discusses the lives, extreme hardships, and oppression of the enslaved. Our guide was sensitive and knowledgeable. She obviously had done extensive research.

The truth - Anastasia was an excellent and aware tour guide. As an African American I loved her delivery and empathy of the historical significance of those that had been enslaved. I would recommend this tour to anyone that wants an introduction to real life on a plantation without whitewashing the experience.

Worthwhile visit - We enjoyed the tour and the stories. The lack of facts and documentation surprised me. The farm was a stud farm and not a crop farm so perhaps less typical. Also only a very few of the slaves were mentioned due to lack of documentation. The guide had strong feelings on the subject and did her best to bring it alive for us. Well done.

Informational tour but could they do more? - Very good tour and had a lot of information about the history of slavery within the plantation as well as interactive discussion about the history of slavery in general. They did mention that they used proceeds to “continue researching the stories of the slaves that were at Belle Meade” but would love if they would consider to use some of the proceeds to make some reparations to those who’s families were slaves there, they indicated that they knew about 66 out of the 136 slaves identities so it seems they could find their families? It felt quite disrespectful to be selling wine with pictures of the slaves on it in the gift shop with no indication that those funds would be helping with the continuation of reform in this country.

Journey to Jubilee Tour - I would have preferred the speaker to give the facts only about what occurred at Belle Mead, and how the Afro American people were treated prior to the Civil War. Allow the audience to judge for themselves about that time in history. I don’t want the presenter’s opinion I only want facts. Thank you!
