A good trip but definitely could be better. - We had a fabulous day as we were very lucky to see a pretty active Etna but there are some buts! We booked via Get your guide and it wasn't clear who we were going with and the tour guide didn't make much effort to find us so we almost missed the bus before we even started! The driver was very skilled and got us up to base very safely and Graziella gave us a running commentary for most of the journey (perhaps a little too much!). On arrival at base we had enough time for coffee and toilets and then we got into the 4x4 for the trip to 2900m. This part was not run by Beltour so I'm not including it in my review (but if you are not sure whether to do the higher level or not then I say do it). After Etna we drove on to Alcantara gorge which was amazing and very refreshing on such a hot day. But. We only got one hour from parking up to having to be back at the bus and that hour included getting our wrist bands and getting the lift down, so really only time for a quick swim and then back up to go home. This part of the trip really needs to be 2 hours as you just don't get a chance to enjoy it. My suggestion is book the Etna part only and do Alcantara in your own time separately as it's just not worth the extra money.
