- Nazca - The tour begins early, with the guide picking up participants at their hotel and heading towards the national reserve.
On the journey, travelers will enjoy a stunning natural landscape that blends various ecological zones, from the sparsely vegetated coastal hills to the lush Andean heights.
The guide will share insights on the revival of an ancient practice known as Chaccu, where vicuñas were herded and shorn without harm. In ancient times, people showed great respect for nature, offering tributes to their gods for protection, with the vicuña being a revered native animal known for producing the world’s finest fiber.
- Nazca - Upon arrival at a site museum, visitors will observe the local wildlife and then take a walk to discover more about the park’s unique flora and fauna. The vicuña national park is situated 90 km from Nazca, along a winding road that ascends to the Peruvian Andes. This region is home to the four species of South American camelids (vicuña, alpaca, llama, and guanaco), which can be seen grazing freely across the high plateau.
The reserve’s characteristic vegetation is grassland (ichu). In the rocky valleys, one can find relict forests of quinoa and quishuar, along with stands of the candelabra cactus.
The most prominent and abundant species in this reserve is the vicuña, whose protection and conservation led to the creation of this unit. Another significant species is the guanaco, which, like the vicuña, is one of the wild South American camelids.
