Discovering the Norwegian Mountaineering Centre

Our family’s journey to Åndalsnes was driven by a shared love for adventure and a curiosity about the world of high mountain sports. The Norwegian Mountaineering Centre, a new gem in the heart of Romsdalen, promised an experience that would captivate both young and old. As we approached the striking architecture of the centre, nestled amidst the dramatic landscapes, I felt a sense of anticipation that this visit would be unlike any other.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a breathtaking film that set the stage for our exploration. The custom-made wall-to-floor screen transported us into the heart of the Romsdalen area, weaving a fairytale narrative with stunning animations. The centrepiece of the Norwegian Mountaineering Centre is undoubtedly its towering indoor climbing wall, the highest in Norway. Watching climbers of all skill levels tackle the 60 climbs spread over 20 anchors was both thrilling and inspiring. Our eldest, ever the adventurer, was eager to give it a try, and with the guidance of the friendly staff, he embarked on his first climbing experience.

For our youngest, the bouldering cave provided endless entertainment. Designed for children as young as three, it was a safe and exciting space for him to explore his climbing abilities. As parents, we appreciated the thoughtful design that allowed us to relax and enjoy a coffee at the centre’s café, all while keeping a watchful eye on our little explorers.
