Magical Mystery Tour - My partner and I were met at Columbo Airport by Mr Sam (founder of the tour company) and his wife.  We were also introduced to our driver, Jeewan.  A local dance troupe had been comissioned by Mr Sam to entertain us outside the airport...what a welcome!  We felt like rockstars! Jeewan took us to our first Hotel, just up the coast in Negombo.  Our tour was personally tailored to our needs - we wanted a blend of the key historical sites and temples, mixed up with days of rest and relaxation.  On the whole, Mr Sam and Jeewan got the balance just right.  Our journey took us to Sigirya, Kandy, Ella, Yala and finally to Galle. I proposed marriage to Maryanne on the top of Lion Rock (Sigirya) and d she said YES!  We'll never forget when and where we got engaged. We saw Buddhas at the Dambulla Cave Temple, the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy, elephants in the sanctuary near Kandy, tea-picking near Nuwara Elyia, the 9-Arch Bridge at Ella, and finally the old fort in Galle.  There were many other attractions thrown in along the way. Maryanne and I were invited to see 2 rural schools near the end of our holiday.  My friend in the UK, Devsiri Hewavidana, set up a charity known as UK Friends of Galle following the Tsunami of 2004.  He wanted to ensure that donations went directly to the people worst-affected and not to fund charity workers, their premises and their vehicles.  I have been a giver whenever I could afford it, to several schools in the area.  On this occasion we bought lunch for the 330 students and staff.  It was a supremely humbling experience and Maryanne and I will definitely do more when we can. With one final, glorious beach day in Galle, we ended the holiday on a real high.  I can't praise Mr Sam, and especially our driver Jeevan, highly enough for everything they provided - it was a truly memorable trip.  What would make it even better would be if the itinerary for each day gave a guide to any incidental expenses that might be expected.  For example, most historical sights (temples etc) ask for an entrance fee (which can usually be paid for by card) plus a cash 'tip' for a guide.  Sometimes the cost could be as much as £50.  Multiply that by the number of sites and activities involved, you need to make sure you have enough spending money with you - these fees are not included in the tour price. But that doesn't detract from the overall experience...Sri Lanka is a green and pleasant land, the people are lovely, the hotels and their food choices were excellent and Mr Sam's tour was first-rate.  Thoroughly recommended.

Great driving, great excursions, great recommendations for food, Chamal made our trip. - Chamal was outstanding, we had such a great time with him over the two weeks. The excursions he suggested were great, as were the restaurants he took us to. He arranged for everything we needed including a tour guide for Sigiriya, safari guide, restaurant reservations, and he helped us any time we needed translation. His driving was great too, we felt safe at all times.
