Great experience! - Our guide Carlos was fantastic. He was very knowledgable about the archeology of the region and geological formations, had a keen eye for spotting the diversity of wildlife, and our group of about 10 people had fun over the two hikes with a relaxing lunch and pool visit in-between.

Perfect day tour with Tocaya - This was just an awesome tour! Efrain is a wonderful guide who really knows the area. I'm so glad I did this tour rather than try to explore the desert on my own. He took me to all the highlights of both the red and grey desert in a day, a visit to the astronomical observatory, and even a visit to his beautiful family farm! Efrain was very easy to work with and helped answer all my questions before I arrived. He's friendly and speaks perfect English. I hope to work with him again on a future tour! I would highly recommend working with Efrain if you're visiting this area!

Amazing day in the Tatacoa desert with great guide! - We had an amazing day in the Tatacoa desert with a really knowledgeable guide. We did a boat ride, visited the grey and red desert, went swimming in a natural pool (optional) and ended the day watching the stars at the observatory. The organization was also kind enough to let us join the tour only in Villavieja and return to Neiva in the evening so we could stay one night in the desert. Only point to be aware of for the non-Spanish speakers: We thought the tour would be fully in English, however both exclusively Spanish speakers and exclusively English speakers were allowed on the tour. Hence, it felt like we followed a Spanish tour which was for 90% translated into English. The other participanten were also all speaking Spanish amongst one another. Besides, the guide at the observatory was exlusively speaking Spanish.

Pretty good tour in the desert - When we arrived at the departure point, no one was there. After trying to get a hold of the tour company, they told us that they had had some staffing changes and no one had updated the dayā€™s itinerary with our booking. So they found a taxi to drive us to (and around) the desert for the day. The driver was friendly, but the taxi was not air conditioned and he didnā€™t speak English. Most of the staff we interacted with didnā€™t speak English, even though we booked our tour to be in English. The hikes with Miguel were fun- he tried his best to explain things to us in Spanish. The pool was very welcomed after hiking in the heat. I recommend you bring a towel for the pool, unless youā€™re fine with drying off in the sun. Definitely pack lots of sunscreen and water. We didnā€™t stay for the stargazing, as there were many clouds and we didnā€™t think we would be able to see anything. Overall, the experience was good, but if you speak fluent Spanish it will be much better.

Tatacoa - The tour was nice, but we were put in a different group. Because of this we did not do part of the program, but we did do a boat trip instead of the Villavieja museum. It also became a real hike, which made it too difficult for my partner. There was also no communication about it. The environment is beautiful. Stars are beautiful to see, but only in Spanish. This made it take a bit long.
