An exhilarating three days - Bursting into the light as we came out of Spooners tunnel led to my favourite part of the trail: freewheeling down the old railway line, high above the wide valley, and gently descending to the valley floor. Reminded me of galloping a horse on the beach.
My daughter's favourite section was the Waimea estuary at high tide, where the cycleway often crosses the water. When the tide was lower, there were so many shorebirds calmly feeding as the water retreated. At one point we had a strong head wind for a while, but our e-bikes took care of that!
So much fun.

Long but exhilarating ride - Excellent staff and very professional and helpful. The trip from the tunnel to mapua is 60 km, mostly downhill or flat. Beautiful ride through the tunnel, forests, farms, wine country and an estuary though a bit also by a pulp mill. You end at the ferry taking you to Mapua which is a pretty little village with some stores and restaurants.
The ride us very long and you need to upgrade to ebikes (price listed us regular bike). We also asked for a gel seat cushion which made a huge difference.
Some of our friends did the shorter nelson to mapua trip and I think the tunnel version is better.
Not a lot of time to stop at the restaurants to make the last ferry to mapua .. be aware .
Only negative point is that the bike route was not always well marked and we made several wrong turnings. Not the fault of the bike company but the markers need to be fixed. There are other bike trails that take you other places so you really need to use the map provided. The ebikes made a big difference for time.
We saw some rare flightless Weka birds at the ferry dock which was amazing!
Overall fun day and highly recommended!

Fun day out on ebikes. - This trip was so enjoyable. We had transport to Spooners Tunnel and enjoyed the different scenery through the region. A stop in Wakefield for the famous pies and then a coffee at HQ in Brightwater. We stopped by the chickens at Quail Valley Farm...they all came running (take some bread for them...they are cute). Staff were helpful and gave us good briefings of the bikes and lights for the tunnel. A great day out. I would recommend The Grape Escape for lunch...a bit off the trail (500m or so) but always amazing food, cakes and lovely setting with other shops nearby to explore.

Lovely day e-biking - My wife and I had a great time on a day-long tour on e-bikes from Kiwi Journeys. The guides & driver were super-friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and the equipment looked new and well-maintained. We were lucky in that the weather was stunning. There was heaps to do en route (way more than we could fit in). I'm not a confident cyclist at all, but it was perfectly manageable for me (other than that one ditch I ended up in... but that was me being an idiot! LOL).
We stopped for lunch and did a single wine-tasting detour. My only advice: we were taking it at a moderate pace but didn't have a ton of time to spare. So I'd recommend choosing no more than 1 or 2 extra curricular things to do, including lunch (i.e. stops along the way that don't involve actually getting from A to B) so that you don't feel pressured about missing the last bike ferry from Rabbit Island to Mapua.
The Spooner Tunnel was really surreal, and biking in the sun along riverbanks and by vineyards and hops gardens was very cool. (And while it would've been manageable on regular bikes, for those of us who are relatively sedentary the e-bike component definitely made it a more enjoyable experience! Highly recommended. :)

Great Ride - Great trip. We had e-bikes which were the best we've hired so far. George the driver was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of tips on where to visit. The ride was 60 kms, but mainly downhill and easy with e-bikes.

A great way to see Tasman Bay - A great day's outing for grandmother and two kids, 13y. & 11y., all on e-bikes. It was the first time the kids had used e-bikes, and they were ecstatic, managed the full ride easily - even though we had the misfortune to have a puncture, which shortened our total distance by about two-thirds. The backup service for the puncture was prompt, efficient & friendly, in helping us figure out how to make sure we rendezvoused in time for the ferry, but also did as much of the biking as we could.

A great full-day experience - Pretty much can match the reviews below - even chose to go to the same places to eat, and really glad I did.
A great full-day out. Informative guides drove us to the start of the track then left us to go off on our own.
It's pretty much a three-leg trip so the places where you stop for a break and a bit to eat (Wakefield, Richmond, and Mapua) are timed perfectly.
The first 10-15 minutes of the trip is a bit of a bumpy surface but it smooths out after that (so don't worry)
Highly recommended. Do need a bit of fitness. Also ask for a seat that fits your sit bones right (still have a sore bum - but had a GREAT day)

An Absolute Treat - This ride is an absolute treat. Very interesting with constant variety in bike trail and scenery including forest, river trail, coastlal, farmland, vineyards and hop farms. Great fun riding through the Spooner Tunnel. Lots of information along the way and the route is clearly marked. Delicious morning tea at Wakefield Bakery, lunch at the Grape Escape Cafe was delightful and our perfect day ended strolling around Mapua and a refreshment at the Golden Bear Brewery. A fantastic day - money well spent. Thanks Kiwi Journeys.

Best service in town! - This was such a lot of fun! Aaron was amazingly helpful, getting our bikes sorted, lots of route tips about where to go and where to stop off and in particular, fantastic patience and encouragement for our 9 yr old to get on the bike!
Couldn’t recommend this business and team highly enough.
Great cycle tracks throughout Nelson.
