The name Manasalu comes from the Sanskrit term ‘MANASA’, signifying the spirit of the Mountains. Open to tourists since 1991, this trekking adventure provides an unparalleled chance to explore a largely “unspoiled” region. This breathtaking journey encompasses the entire massif, delving into the cultures of indigenous Nepalese tribes and followers of the Hindu and Buddhist religions. Although mountaineering expeditions have long frequented the area, a group led by H.W. Tillman navigated from Thonje to Bimtang and col in 1950. Jimmy Roberts crossed the Larkya La (Pass) hunting for an intriguing mountain to ascend. Manaslu (8,163m) was targeted by Japanese Expeditions annually from 1952 up to 1956 when the first successful climb was completed. Consequently, it earned the moniker ‘JapaneseMountain’, and a vast amount of information concerning the region can be found in Japanese.
