As I embarked on the Mi’kmaq Heritage Path Tour in Elsipogtog, New Brunswick, I was filled with anticipation. The allure of immersing myself in a culture so deeply intertwined with nature and history was irresistible. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a traditional welcome that set the tone for the profound experience that lay ahead. The community teepee, a symbol of unity and spirituality, was our first stop. Here, I participated in a smudging ceremony, a sacred ritual that cleanses the soul and connects one to the spiritual realm. The aromatic smoke enveloped us, and I felt a sense of peace and connection to the land and its people.

Kayla, our guide, was a beacon of knowledge and warmth. Her insights into the Mi’kmaq way of life were not just informative but deeply personal.
