This private day trip starts in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel, the airport, or any preferred location in Delhi. You’ll then drive to Agra in your private air-conditioned vehicle via India’s famous Yamuna Expressway, which takes approximately 3 to 4 hours (210 km).

Upon arriving in Agra, your first stop will be the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, a Mughal mausoleum in the city. Accompanied by your local tour guide, you’ll learn all about this site, often described as a “Jewel box” and sometimes called the “Baby Taj.” The tomb is considered a draft of the Taj Mahal and was commissioned by Jahangir’s wife, Nur Jahan, for her father, Mirza Ghiyas Beg, who was given the title Itimad-ud-Daulah (pillar of the state). Built between 1622 and 1628, the mausoleum is set in a large cruciform garden with water courses and walkways.

Next, you’ll continue to Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site also known as Lal Qila, Fort Rouge, and the Red Fort of Agra. More accurately described as a walled city, the fort was captured by the Mughals in 1526, who seized a vast treasure, including the Koh-i-Noor diamond. It took 4,000 workers eight years to complete the fort in 1573.

After visiting Agra Fort, you’ll stop at an air-conditioned restaurant to enjoy a traditional Indian lunch.

Following lunch, your tour will proceed to the Taj Mahal with your private local tour guide. As one of India’s biggest tourist attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Taj Mahal showcases intricate marble inlay work with precious and semi-precious stones. Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631 during childbirth, the monument is a pinnacle of Mughal architecture. The love and effort that went into building this beautiful structure are palpable when you stand before it.

Later, you can enjoy some shopping in Agra, known for its handicrafts, especially marble inlay work. The Mughals were great patrons of art and craft, with Empress Noorjahan herself being an accomplished artist in zari embroidery. Agra’s major handicraft products include leatherware, brassware, carpets, jewelry, and embroidery work.

At the end of your tour, you’ll be driven back to Delhi with beautiful memories of Agra. Drop-off will be at your hotel, the airport, or any preferred location in Delhi.
